In my opinion the teacher role is very hard in these days. The teacher need to have a lot ideas to inspire young people. In the past it was not so hard, because the teacher was having a big advantage. Now he is not because of the internet, mass media, and this that we are just growing in different world than our parents. In the teaching process it is very important to ask students and pupils about their opinions and ideas, maybe because of that, our classes can be better, or we, as teachers can be inspired by students! Also a good looking attribute is the teachers supportive attitude, because of that students can spread their wings, which is super important.
This blog raises an interesting theory upon teachers, I definitely agree with the four components listed. I, personally believe that teachers play one of the biggest roles within our education, if your teacher is not motivated, then how are the students supposed to be motivated also? All of my favourite teachers have been ones who are enthusiastic and innovative, I feel that innovation of new ways of learning is key, one of my old spanish teachers had a system where every word had a different action with it, this proved for a very good method of remembering things for the whole class. Things such as this make a huge difference, you spend hours in a classroom and you do not want to be talked at for that hour.
I feel institutions don’t give the students enough of a voice, they just presume that things are ‘ok’ when often they are not. Teachers can, unfortunately have a negative effect upon a students learning as well as positive, therefore teachers carry a lot of responsibility to please and educate their students.
From what the blog says and my own experience I think it takes a certain type of person to be a GOOD teacher, there is a lot of stress involved and they have to be constantly innovating new ideas to give their pupils inspiration to go and be creative.
While reading this article. several things came to my mind: if only teachers would keep these points you pointed out, school would be a better place. I feel that the relationship between teachers and students is a big issue, when I went to school, it happened often that students didn’t even dare to say things in class, because they were scared of the teacher’s reaction. Looking back I can say that I don’t think there were any teachers, who were interested in our opinion, apart from topic-related opinions, up until my final year. I guess that if teachers would have conveyed the feeling that they were interested in our opinion, this may have an impact, students would feel more responsible and more interested following the classes.
But I don’t think that it is only in the teachers hand. Another main point is the student’s attitude. If they are not interested in the topic, haven’t got a lot of respect towards the teachers or rather spend their time doing other things, the teacher’s behaviour won’t change that much. So it is not always only the teachers’ fault. Maybe the teachers at my school didn’t act really friendly just because they didn’t want the students to lose the respect.
Nevertheless, teachers are one of those people, who have a main influence on students. Having friendly teachers who try to have a great relationship to their students, have a huge impact on the student’s development and on their opinion about learning and attending school.
I must say that i cannot be more agree with the article- it`s true in order to be a good teacher you should pay atention and take care of all of the four points in the article above. My both parrents were teachers and they loved working with children. But it`s hard to do it and to be well motivated for doing it when you aren`t paid enough for example, because the teacher`s salery is the bigesst problem in many countries and unfortunatly it`s not something which depence from the teachers themselfes, but the teachers and their motivation and quality depence on it. So i think that the sociaty should work in the both sides- try to develop all this values and skills in the young teachers but also to take good care of them as well.
I do believe a teacher plays a very important role in the success, or in some cases failures, of their students. From personal experience i have found it important that a teacher is enthusiastic and interested in their job and their students. This always encouraged me. For example, I loved learning french in my first year of secondary school simply because the teacher was so encouraging. I was top of my class! However my teacher changed in the years after which I believe contributed to my downfall in the subject as the teacher lacked enthusiasm and encouragement.
A teacher’s role is one of the most important components in schools. It involves more than simply standing in front of a classroom and lecturing. In fact, even though a teacher spends the majority of the day in the classroom, the actual teaching component is only part of the job. An effective teacher understands that teaching involves wearing multiple hats to ensure that the school day runs smoothly and all students receive a quality education. It is not easy to be a good teacher. He should be responsible, patient, reliable, motivating, friendly,… He should really care of students and be there for them. I also agree with this that pupils should be asked more often for their opinions, because this is one of the ways to learn something new. They may have new or other ideas, the professor doesn´t consider.
These 4 points are very important for teaching! But It´s very difficult to learn all of this at univeryity. You also have to learn a lot of them by your own. I also think the the university for teacher education is just a start! It´s not possible to learn everything for beeing a teacher. They just give you the first help. In Austria we have a preexam! not everybody can become a teacher. This exam includes music, writing, sports, mathematics,… from 1000 people only 25 are able to become a teacher. (I´m one of this :D)
I also agree that the teacher should have an open mind for students opinion! Espeacilly nodwadays. The time is running so fast. We develope so much thing! If we are not open mindet for the interestes of the other generation we are bad teachers. We have to go with time and we have to be open mindet for student´s interests and ideas!
Students (pupils) are the main goal in education. And teachers are people, who teach them, so, educators must ask to pupils ideas, thoughts, because teachers are based on pupils. Teachers must understand how to plan their lessons and the best way is to ask to people, who is the reason for these lessons.I agree that teachers should have many of those attributes, because the better the teachers skills are, the better is the education and learning outcome of the pupils. So the aim has to be to have the best teachers for all the children. But that is almost impossible to get, because some of the attributes are not possible to get through learning.
The teachers have got one of the biggest part in the student’s successful, sithence they make the basics, they show to the students how to use their minds as well as possible. They have to make the correct connection between the students and them, get to know the students, form a friendly atmosphere, and then help to find their aims for the future, and show the best way to start to reach them. Make challenge, and be of assistance to fight with the barriers. Of course the good co-operation is necessary, the students have to want to fight as much as the teachers want to help.
There are many aspects that can assess a proffesor a human beeing. I must admit there is not many good teachers in the world. So when we see one, we remember him for whole life. This kind of people knows how t get to the students mind. Has skills, has patience, joy of what he does. A good teacher should be a friend of a student. In Poland I had 2 good teachers only. One was very requiring, second one as well, but they had their own way of teaching. No one was scared of them, but we respected them. It was the point. They showed us, that they are the same as we are. Not better. The same. So we wanted to spend time with them, wanted to learn from them. They respected us, so why should not we?
Throughout a person’s life, a teacher can and will be one of the most important people in our lives. From a young age, we will begin to create a bond with a teacher that will teach us how to read, how to write and how to communicate with others. This is essential to our upbringing and can make a big difference to our future. In order for a teacher to create a great bond with his/her students, they need to be engaging, charismatic, and can be flexible and easily adaptable according to the personality and needs of a student. Another major factor to having a successful relationship with a teacher is to be able to trust them and to be able to be open with them. An example of one of my experiences, was in the university in the UK, where I had a business teacher who was energetic, charismatic and very open and honest with his students. This made me feel comfortable and relaxed around in his presence and it was a great experience to have encountered considering my past occurrences with teachers that lack an engaging personality. Therefore, the personality and attitude of a teacher can make a whole difference to a student’s education and can sometimes be partly the reason for a person’s success or failure.
A teacher role plays such a pivotal in a young person life. Or they can do if they have a major impact. Young people are impressionable and being taught by the same person for 5 days per week means this teacher has a massive influence. A teacher cannot always be a mentor for each student however they can impose their authority and influence to help students learn vital skills. I believe from my own experience that not all students can be reached in they way a teacher perhaps aims to. However a teacher must attempt to help educate each student by being flexible and a role model for their students. Therefore I do think a teacher does have a massive say in the success of their students, but not the final say this can come from many external and internal factors.
In education the role of the teacher is important, because they can help a lot to the students, but they can make things worse. For the pupils its mean a lot if the teacher take care about them, asking for their opinion, not just says her/his. A good teacher the end of the year, and through become a friend who can talk with the kids about everything free. Everybody wants this kind of teachers. No need to push, because situations like this the children happily do the task, the research. Unfortunately not every teacher see this, and they just believe in the curriculum, and nothing else. In their opinion no need for careing too much, if someone dont understand something will ask, but thats all. No extra talk, no games, no researches. Not a friendly environment.
I think that during the years of youth, every young person needs a mentor to help him from the very beginning take your own career path. Often looking like someone among our loved ones, whether it’s parents or other members of his own family, but it is not a good idea, because these people are not quite objective. Such a person definitely could be just a teacher, but not always he wants to have a good contact with their students, which is a big mistake this misteake repeated by successive generations of teachers are. The future success very much depends on the faculty and a school management should take care of its kwalifiacje, because only the success of their students can be measured by the prestige of the school.
The most important role of the professors seem to imparting knowledge and educating students. Hence, Professor should become for students authority. This means that students in an unforced recognize the teacher an expert in your field of expertise, but also the pattern in terms of behavior. Professor – although it sounds a bit idealistic – is to be a guide for the students to help them pave the road of life. Teacher is it thanks to the understanding of others, and ruthlessness towards each other, mastering, disciplined, patience, tolerance, justice, respect for the dignity of students, approach to the problems of openness and willingness to help. The teacher must know how to listen and is able it develop creativity and give your disciple new ideas into action. For developing and innovating and learning the system or the personal competences of a teacher, teachers should ask for feedback and the other hand, student should also express their opinions that create more effetcivly education system.
There are teacher-student relationship in education.Always guiding teachers, students are in the detectors.Student learning improves creativity.Teachers also approved therapeutic and corrective role of the missing side.Students learn from teachers all they know.So the teacher is determinant in this relationship.Provides students with behavior. So teachers are supportive. When determining the relationship between students competence, intelligence, values and must have administrative support.Because responses to students are important.Sometimes it can lead to adverse reactions. We’re going through a certain part of our lives with teachers in schools. And this situation is causing major impact on our personal character. As a result, teacher-student relationships play a decisive role in our lives.
Two important facts about student-teacher relationship: communication and trust. Students need to feel comfortable to open, share their opinion and they will do it just if they will trust in a teacher, that they know, that the teacher will not mark or mock them because of their opinion. Students need to know that teacher respect their thinking, even if he/she has got a few levels higher education. A student should not be afraid to ask a teacher a question about some topic or to ask if some facts can be repeated. It really depends on the teacher how much will a student take from a subject. The teacher needs to communicate with a student. And through communication the best ideas are born.
A great teacher is one a student remembers and cherishes forever. Teachers have long-lasting impacts on the lives of their students, and the greatest teachers inspire students toward greatness. A great teacher is very engaging and holds the attention of students in all discussions.
A great teacher establishes clear objectives for each lesson and works to meet those specific objectives during each class.A great teacher has effective discipline skills and can promote positive behaviors and change in the classroom.A great teacher has good classroom management skills and can ensure good student behavior, effective study and work habits, and an overall sense of respect in the classroom.A great teacher maintains open communication with parents and keeps them informed of what is going on in the classroom as far as curriculum, discipline, and other issues. They make themselves available for phone calls, meetings, and email.
A great teacher has high expectations of their students and encourages everyone to always work at their best level.A great teacher has thorough knowledge of the school’s curriculum and other standards they must uphold in the classroom.
For me, in order to foster positive relationships within the classroom, it is important to have open communication among the teacher and the students, but also among the students. But we must think the ways to achieve this within our classroom. For example foster a sense of community and open communication by implementing a morning meeting every morning in which the students tell each other good morning, share stories of things of importance that are occurring in their life, and others get to comment or ask questions. I find it fosters relationships that may not usually be there. I am interested to learn what others are doing in their classroom to build community and open communication.
The role of teacher is really important for all students. If they like their teachers, they will like also their lectures. If they don’t like their teachers, they won’t like their lectures. So, the teacher should have a good communication with his/her students. With a good communication, students feel free and they can express their ideas easily. If teachers aren’t interested in their students futures or their situations, students can’t feel in mood and this situation affects their studies in their education life. However, it is not only a teacher’s duty. Students and teachers should have a good relationship in order to create a good atmosphere in the class and in order to maintain it in whole years.
There is no doubt that teachers have to posess an amount of competences which requieres their job. However, I think it is pretty unlikely that all of the competences listed in the article are developped to it’s fullest in the first time starting their profession. As stated also teachers must have the initiative to learn and learning also implicits gaining experiences and learning from your mistakes. Therefore it is essential that teachers reflect on their teaching methods in order to allow improvements. In my opinion, the most important traits a teacher should posess are motivation and passion for the respective subject (and motivation includes the interest to get involved with students, deal with diferent personalities etc.). Not to forget, it is crucial for a teacher to have pacience and good communication skills.
The environment in schools must always be open so that the pupils feels that they can express themselves and say their opinions. And also it has to allowed the pupils to get the opportunity to reflect and discuss with each other and through that I think the pupils can develop and learn a lot. And all this is up to the teacher, the teacher has to create this environment in the classroom. And I agree with what you write in your blog about which skills a teacher should have. If the teacher has the competencies, the right cognitive intelligence, good values and a functioning political and administrative support, then I think the teacher has the right tools to create a really good environment for the pupils and work in a good way with the curriculum.
In my opinion, teachers hold the highest regard for students after their parents. All cultures and religions preach that students are supposed to respect their teachers and should try to learn from them not only what’s there in the academic curriculum but also the values of life. Teachers have an important role in building the personality of students and the relationship they develop with them determines the student’s academic and personal growth.A positive teacher student relationship could be developed by encouraging a learning environment where the student feels free to ask whatever he wants to and the teacher responds in a manner which is understandable by the student. Therefore it would not be wrong to say that the building block of a strong teacher student relationship is effective communication. A teacher-student relationship evolves with time. When in primary school the teacher usually acts as a mother for students and guides them about every little thing. In secondary and post secondary school the approach of teachers becomes more professional.
In my opinion the student and the teacher should work together to create a stimulating education system. It’s very important that they communicate. I understand that teachers have to stick to a curriculum but some children need more help than others and they should be able to communicate when they need help and what they need help with. It’s important that they feel they can do this and not be afraid to ask questions in the classroom. Communication between student and teacher is also a good way for the teacher to assess what the pupils enjoy and don’t enjoy learning about or even the way in which they are learning. In my opinion communication is one of the most important parts of the education system and process.
The importance of asking children about their own idea should be encouraged in education. In many schools this is not practised. Teachers often focus solely on what they want to teach and the child’s interests become less of a priority. The child will soon become uninterested in what they are learning if their ideas and contributions are continuously ignored. In my opinion a teacher should be the most influential person in a childs life outside of the home. Their main concern should be helping them improve and develop as an individual. They must take into account how their own actions affect their pupils in positive and negative ways. Perhaps if they focused on strengthening their teaching methods they will not only create a better classroom environment but the child will feel confident in fulfilling their academic potential and their personalities.
Teaching your child how to effectively communicate with teachers is an essential in today’s educational environment. While the school has a set curriculum that it follows to educate your child, you also have the responsibility of teaching your children certain things. Then, there are those lessons that should be mutual between your home as well as the school. An example of one of these lessons is that of communicating effectively. In order to ensure the success of your child, it is important that you know the basics when it comes to teaching your child how to effectively communicate with teachers.
Everything around you is changing, and the style of teaching. The infinite school materials that can be applied at any lesson is no longer about to see. How teachers can now give a strong and proper lesson in this time. My school years I found that I liked the most fun classes where you could have a questioning attitude and put your things could go try. Students want to be out challenges and with the materials and skills that a school, a teacher may be able to through material and the correct way to modern control, lessons engaging and educational. these days the teachers should be informed of this kind of these educational changes and get help.
as said in the article that students always say what they want to achieve and the ideas they reveal themselves. But it is important that the teacher that students offer the opportunity to develop those ideas themselves. If a teacher can teach a well equipped where everything is perfect, a student may still not be able to function. This is because it is not only the attitude of the teacher but also can other factors such as house, street, work and so on. Often when the student with all the factors that a normal tire, the student can improve.
In my opinion successful teaching requires both the teacher and the student working well together. I agree with the article the work load of a teacher is huge because they have to cater for every individual in the class. I think that every student need to try their best to engage with the teacher as best as possible and work with what the teacher has to do in order to cover the curriculum and needs. The teacher needs to pay the same amount of attention to all students because I think if they don’t it would be unfair. Favouritism is a very important area in the classroom because if a teacher favourites several individuals over others it would cause tension in the class and the others might not work well with the teacher. It is very important that the teachers and students work together in order to carry out effective teaching.
I agree with this article that communication between teachers and students is very important to succeed in effective teaching. The communication between the student and the teacher serves as a connection between the two, which provides a better atmosphere for a classroom environment. Of course a teacher is not going to understand every problem for every child in his or her classroom, but will acquire enough information for those students who are struggling with specific tasks. The teacher needs to understand that in many schools, children come from different cultures and backgrounds. A teacher then needs to understand the value of the students’ senses of belonging, which can be of greater value and build self-worth for minority students. If the teacher demonstrates an understanding of the student’s culture, it will provide a better understanding between the teacher and the student. Therefore, those teachers who demonstrate respect towards their students automatically win favor by having active learners in their classroom. Definitely children learn when they enjoy learning, but also they need some control over the teacher’s decisions. For teachers conducting a classroom and shaping the minds of the young students, teachers who communicate effectively with their students should give appropriate and helpful feedback to their students. Interaction between the student and teacher becomes extremely important for a successful relationship through the entire time of a school year.
The question facing every individual, especially a teacher, is how to handle or behave in this complex and constantly changing world; appropriate response to the preparedness of the individual for lifelong learning, because if we want to survive, we need to acquire new methods, skills and ways of conduct. For successful operation are not enough professional qualifications, but you must obtain an individual’s ability to experiential learning, reflection and evaluation of our own work.
Teacher’s work is extremely challenging and as we can read in the article, teachers are in the spotlight of students who are able to adequately assess the quality work and can be critical. Students, therefore, know very well what they want from their teachers and what they can expect. I think that all of these skills can be difficult to win immediately, but you can achieve them over the years of teaching and experiences in the field of education. I wish all teachers to be like this, but mostly more respected and better paid because they are not stimulated for their work nowadays. Students should speak out loud several times about what they expect from teachers and propose their ideas, and then a lot of people would see teachers in another perspective.
The image and posture of teacher is very important in the educational system. Teachers are some kind of leader and example for students. There is variety of professors who, despite of their huge knowledge and wisdom, cannot be called good teacher. In my opinion the perfect way to be a good teacher is just to like this job. Working as a teacher is really hard because of the fact that it cannot rule out feelings and frame of mind. The key to success is to have a positive posture. With optimistic attitude all the features which are mentioned in the article will come easily.
I think that it’s crucial to understand how important work of a teacher is. We want to be high educated, we want to have good specialist but, what we forget about, is that there need to be someone that will teach us those things. If the teacher doesn’t teach well, people don’t gain knowledge. However it’s important to have good professors, it’s not that easy to become one of them. Future teachers apart from the knowledge about certain fields they need a lot more to teach well. I fully agree with what was written in the article, in the summary of students’ conclusion. We need to be aware that the level and quality of education depend on those conclusions.
I think the problem is that teachers too rarely want to know student’s point of view. Very often they even do not give them a chance to speak freely during the class. I am sure the students have a lot of good ideas that could be used in practice and help to improve the education system. Teachers should be interested in student’s expectations, they should create a friendly atmosphere between each other, exchange experiences, knowledge and ideas. I think the best thing is to give students the space and freedom of speech, lead them to discussion and ask about their needs. I am sure that in this way not only students can get knowledge from the teacher, but also teachers can learn something from their students.
I think that students should tell their ideas in a free (safe) classroom environment. I said safe because it is a very important fact in these these. The teacher is responsible for provide a safe place for students to express themselves. Because if students know that they are safe and sound to tell what they think wihout any fear of being teased, they will feel free and they will trust themselves. Not only children (kindergarden or primary school) but also the university students and teenagers. Teachers can be helped to improve their teaching and correspond better to student’s needs. «A good teacher» should be responsible, patient, reliable, motivating, friendly. They should really care (maybe love) their students, because then they will try their best in order to help them learn and develop their personality. Because education does not mean only the information about geography or maths also you learn the humanity and yourself in the school.
I want to add one more quality to conclusions. This conclusion has a topic called «transparency and tolerance». As a role model teacher should be open all ideas thoughts and eager to show pros and cons of ideas or thoughts. By doing this teacher should not reveal his opinions so clearly because it should affect students in a bad way. Otherwise, at the next time, students may not be motivated to ask different idea or thoughts about anything. Students start to be political in general aspect, in search of being accepted by his teacher or friends. That makes student less creative, tolerant to other people and ideas.
Being a teacher is a really big responsibility. They are in charge of teaching a lot of students during their career and influence the lives of their students in doing so. That’s why having a good relationship between teacher and students is so important. For both of them – student and teacher, it provides positive learning and teaching experiences. Unfortunately nowadays a lot of teachers are narrow-minded. Many of them haven’t even thought about it to ask the students what their expectations. What they expect from education, from classes, from teachers? For sure many times, students have a lot of interesting ideas but no one ever asked them. I think it could be because of fear that some teachers have. They are afraid that they are not good enough. That’s why asking for feedback is a great idea for students and teachers. In this way they can start to work towards and solving any problems. In my opinion the most important task for the teacher is getting to know the students and motivate them because you, as a teacher are the role model for them. Teacher should work with students to look at their potential and believe that they are the ones who will create the future.
Giving a good education does not mean having only a good field knowledge or having a high GPA at the university. There is more than that. The way how a teacher teaches really matter. It is too difficult for a teacher to gauge his own teaching effectiveness. There needs to be evaluation. The one who should provide this evaluation is students. However; to have a useful feedback, there needs to be a good rapport between the teacher and the students so that students make some judments or reflection on the teaching provided by the teacher. The ideas- brached into 4 fields- that are suggested by the students in Ireland are really to the point. I must say that they are partly plausible, though. The reason is that teacher may have some personal or health problems or they may have some really trouble students that destroy the lesson. But, theachers should bear these suggestions in mind and do their best, anyway, even if it is really hard to teach in such a bad teaching environment or even when they have a little political and administrative support. There is an anonymous quotation that explains why teachers should do their best in teaching. It is “ to teach is to touch a life forever”. As stated at the top, teaching is not only about having a good field knowledge. There really is much more than that.
In Poland many people believes that being a teacher is the most easiest job ever. They believe that the teacher works only for 5 or 6 hours a day plus he/ she have lots of free time for instance during the summer holidays. People don’t realise that a good teacher spends plenty of time workoing at home: checking essays, exams, preparing interesting activities tocatch students attention, modying old lesson not to get his students bored. It requires a lot of time. What is more a good teacher should broden his knowledge throughout his whole life. He should attend many courses to be familiar with new techniques of teaching etc.
I agree with all these characteristics which are illustrated and show how should be a really good teacher. But this could be just an model of the “perfect teacher” who doesn`t seem very realistic.
But some of these traits of character and abilities are really important. So the teacher should show a patient, respectful and empathetic attitude towards his students and understand how the things work from their point of view. He should be really interested in his own subjects and improve his knowledge in these areas continuously, and draw interest in his subject. He also should realize that students have much more than his subjects and he should accept that a lot depends on individual interests. He should just motivate the students to give the best they can, but keep in mind that some requirements aren´t realistic. There are a lot of teachers who think that their subject is the most important ever and demand too much. Also there are lots of teachers who aren´t able to motivate and arouse interests through their own attitude and so they use marks as pressurizing medium to get attention. But this attitude serves for nothing, just creates a bad atmosphere which prevents a sensible learning process.
I think when a person becomes a teacher, he/she should have in mind that the role of a teacher is quite complex. It is not only about teaching a given subject. What is important is to realise that teachers are guides for their students. In order to teach properly, teacher should know his/her students to such a extend that they can easily say a few sentences about their lives. How to do it? As you wrote in this article, the best way is to ask students about their opinions, ideas etc. Then they feel we are interested in them and that we care about their personal views. It raises students’ feeling of confidence and self-esteem.
I think asking the student for feedback is very important. If you give them a chance, they will share their ideas with you, maybe they will suggest some changes and improvements, or maybe they will just praise the work of a teacher, which will motivate him or her to continue the good work. When it comes to the figure of a teacher, I think it is really important that teachers should like their job because it is reflected in their work, the way they conduct lessons, prepare themselves, relate to students. An important factor helping teachers feel good in what they are doing is support in their working environment. They need to know that they are liked, appreciated and supported.
The ability of the pupil to learn new information is dependant on the personality of the teacher in my opinion as I feel that often children learn the most, the fastest, the best way when their teacher is approachable, friendly, caring, emotional and empathic just like this blog suggests. However we must ensure that we are not placing all of the blame on the teacher when it comes to the grades of the pupil as there can be other contributing factors both in the school setting and at home which can play an important part in the end grades a pupil will achieve. These factors however will be known to a teacher if the pupil has a constant relationship with the same teacher throughtout their educational life. On the other hand this can also create problems and may make it harder for the pupil to adjust in later life to changes as they will not have experienced this before.
I really agree with the article and the statement that it is important to include student’s opinions when it comes to what and how to teach. Every teacher should be able to accept suggestions from students and should try to implement their ideas if possible. Pupils will be more interested if teachers include them and use their ideas for the lessons. Teachers often stick to old customs and teach their children how they did some years ago. This makes the lessons uninterested. I think that pupils would be much more motivated if they see that the teacher really cares about them. I am sure that lessons would be much fun when teachers use some ideas from their students if possible. Nowadays children often know things better than the teacher when it comes to new technology. Why don`t include their ideas and recommendations? The students will see that their opinions matter and will be more willing to learn new things and with more motivation.
In my opinion, asking students about their own ideas is very important, but is not commonly practiced. Usually, teachers give us loads of information and they already have the answers they want to hear. If you give them something else, a different response from what they expect, a piece of who you are, they will not be satisfied. Teachers should be able to help us improve, but it is impossible, until they find themselves. Nowadays, there are several teachers not being comfortable with what they are doing and sometimes just taking their anger out on students. The current situation needs to be changed. Teachers need workshops and conferences, they should improve their skills first and only then will they be able to fulfil their potential. Teachers and students together could create a better environment for education, help each other develop their motivation for lifelong learning.
It is very important to include the students in the process of education and learning. Nowadays you can’t perform a lesson, where only the teacher is talking. I has to be the other way around. Students should have 80% of talking, studying time in a lesson and the teacher the other 20%. It is very important to ask them about their ideas, what they think about different things, what they would change and what they would like to learn. It’s also very good for their motivation to include them in the whole process, especally nowadays with all the new, modern devices, where sometimes students know more about something than the teacher himself. If both parties listen to each other carefully and try to keep an open mind abouut things, it can be a success.
It is of great importance that the children within the education environment can have a good relationship with their teacher. In a world where issues and difficulties are increasing, it is important that a child feels comfortable to approach their teacher without any hesitation. This should be the case throughout their education.
However, I do not see the benefit of having the same teacher throughout 6/7 years of education. I feel that it is necessary for children to go through the change of a teacher every year or at least 2. This helps the child to adapt to new situations and be more comfortable with change from an early stage. It may scare the child to begin with as the unknown of what another teacher is like may be daunting but over time they will be able to accept this change much more easily.
I agree that being a teacher is one of the most important in the world. However though it is partly rewarding it can also be painful, exhausting and stressful. Being a good teacher requires a lot of patience and focus. The teacher must be able to communicate perfectly with not only the students he/she likes but to those students he/she doesn’t have any connection with. Obviously if a teacher has a good relationship with the student the teaching process and the result of the learning will be much better. I per example do learn best by those teachers I actually like. If you are a music teacher and trying to give some lectures to a student you do not have any kind of relationship with it will fail. I made the experience myself. Having some conversations not only about the topic the teacher want to lecture but also about life in gernal can help giving better results than only talking about the subject.
I agree with this article saying that teachers should listen more to the students, I’m not saying that students are always right, but sometimes they have another way of looking at things and other ideas. This could give the possibility to the teachers to see things from another perspective. Because I believe that some teachers give the same theory over and over again, they use the same books and subjects year after year. So the lessons become routinely for them, what means they give less driven lessons. An natural reaction of the students is, boring lessons I’ll skip this… If they would be willing to listen to the feedback students give them, maybe they will realize that their lessons actually aren’t interesting anymore. A couple of videos or interesting links can give a very big boost to your lessons and attract the student’s attention. Invite professors, or other professionals to the classroom gives the opportunity to the students to ask questions and open their mind. This is much more interesting than reading an interview with a professor for example.
The role of the teacher in a class is extremely important. A teacher simply can cause students to hate or love the subject. Of course there are lots of reasons but the attitude of teacher cannot be ignored and it is primarily important. Having a great knowledge doesn’t make us a successful teacher. For example I know a girl who hated maths for 8 years and failed over and over. After 8 years, the teacher was replaced with another math teacher and the girl became amazingly successful and now she is a math teacher. As a teacher, we all can be the reason that changes a student’s life. It always must be kept in mind. The list given in the article, the teaching task skills, cognitive and emotional intelligence, values, and political and administrative support, is very important and I totally agree with these competences.
It flatters me that ideas of students can be interpretated as very valuable, because not every teacher is capable of doing this… some of them just think only the teacher with all his or her experience, can bring up useful ideas. Next to that, i agree with the competences and everything the students said that teacher should have. But if i look at it, its a lot. maybe its too mutch. Its almost imposible to have all these competences. they are also humans and can have their lacks of things.. nevertheless, some are of crucial importance for being a teacher of course.
Teaching is one of the hardest jobs, and it should be more respected by the society, like in Finland or Sweden for example. the value of the job is underestimated, and this also influences their salary. I hope this will change soon
The text said: «It is therefore necessary to create the right environment for their learning processes are activated so we can ask them and they give us all their ideas. I have always found the ideas of students enormously useful to follow that thread, for use as a springboard to catapult your words into a new stage and extremely useful for others.» And to create the right environment for children and their learning process is in my opinion very important. The children must be inspired and comfortable. They have to have the possibility to be creative! And as you also say, that the childrens ideas are useful too. I think more teachers should capture childrens idea, since they can be vary creative and inspiring. I used to work in a circus school and I loved to help the children to make their ideas to come true for performances and shows. This made them happy, inspired and they wanted to learn more and do more.
I also think that the four aspects of teaching you also talked about is important too.
Being a teacher is the one of the hardest job, because they need to be unmistakable and the example for their students.if not they can have some problems, first with parents and then with the system. I absolutely agree with this article, specialy with that part which is about professors and their competencies. It is important that teachers and students have communication, because somethimes teachers can learn or get some ideas from the students, so it is always in the proces of getting and giving. Students with expressing their opinion can say a lot of the teachers work and their profesionality. Sometimes is more appreciated the meaning abut some teacher from the students, then the specific work.
The teacher student relationship is very important for children. Children spend approximately 5 to 7 hours a day with a teacher for almost 10 months. We ask ourselves what is considered a good teacher? All of us have gone through schooling, and if fortunate had a favorite teacher. A positive relationship between the student and the teacher is difficult to establish, but can be found for both individuals at either end. The qualities for a positive relationship can vary to set a learning experience approachable and inviting the students to learn. A teacher and student who have the qualities of good communications, respect in a classroom, and show interest in teaching from the point of view of the teacher and learning from a student will establish a positive relationship in the classroom. I will be focusing on the relationship between the student and teacher, involving a setting in the primary grades, which I have found second grade to be extremely important for the student to gain a positive attitude for their future education.Children have different strategies for learning and achieving their goals. A few students in a classroom will grasp and learn quickly, but at the same time there will be those who have to be repeatedly taught using different techniques for the student to be able to understand the lesson. On the other hand, there are those students who fool around and use school as entertainment. Teaching then becomes difficult, especially if there is no proper communication. Yet, teachers, creating a positive relationship with their students, will not necessarily control of all the disruptive studentsThe communication between the student and the teacher serves as a connection between the two, which provides a better atmosphere for a classroom environment. Of course a teacher is not going to understand every problem for every child in his or her classroom, but will acquire enough information for those students who are struggling with specific tasks.
In my opinion a positive relationship between the student and the teacher is difficult to establish, but can be found for both individuals at either end. A teacher and student who have the qualities of good communications, respect in a classroom, and show interest in teaching from the point of view of the teacher and learning from a student will establish a positive relationship in the classroom. The communication between the student and the teacher serves as a connection between the two, which provides a better atmosphere for a classroom environment. Having established a positive relationship with students will encourage students to seek education and be enthusiastic and to be in school.
I agree with this article. I think that this 4 fields of teaching is very important thing. I also think that it’s important to take from students their ideas. But it also very important to let students and prepare environment for them so they could express their opinion and views. It’s allow students to be crative and think not only relay on teacher but also on their own inteligence and knowledge. The teachers should ask students for their opinion because it’s another way to see different point of view. Students can show the teachers their new ideas and that can help teachers to develop their curriculum for example.
The 4 aspects of teaching are very important and in my opinion, it’s impossible to learn them at the university. The education of the university can only give you the information and animation, but finally it depends on the personality and will to learn and practice it. At our university in Graz we have a selection process, before we are allowed to study teacher education. This selection process includes an intelligence test, an musical test, an orthography test and an interview, and after all this parts the university decides, who is convenient to become a teacher. In my opinion, it is a very good way, to find people, who will teach with the 4 important aspects of teaching. But this selection process is only at the University for teacher education for primary school, secondary school and children with special needs. People, who want to study to be a teacher at the grammer school, don’t have to pass such a process. For me it is really unbelievable and strange and I think it should be changed very soon!
We all know that changes in educational system are necessary, but do we know where to start and what to do? Who should decide about it or at least suggest what should be changed? For me the answer is simple – students! Who better know how the school works? Schools are created for pupils/students so their opinion should be taken into consideration while thinking about changing the system. Of course I am talking about smart ideas, interesting ideas. Students have a lot of them but the problem is that no one ask them to express their opinions. SO it is very important for teacher to remember WHY he is doing his job and for WHO. Teachers are not teaching for themselves, they are doing it for students, to give young people knowledge. Unfortunately nowadays they often forget about it…
Asking is the best option when you want to get improvements in any department. And for a teacher to ask a student to give their opinion, it will be the most honest opinion you will get. Teachers are important because they have to involve all of these qualities when teaching students and they have a big role to play in the education system. As Dr. Maeve Martin talked about how all the different skills and qualities that are necessary that teachers have is unbelievable, they have to put so much information together in the head and then plan ahead what they have to do in classes as well.
But i think that teachers are trained so much in to their job that sometimes they could forget that children and students have very valuable ideas and information from their own point of view also.. I think teachers should be valued more than they are. The governments in Ireland are taking their wages to lower amounts considering the amount of work they do and the public think its crazy because even for the special need students they are loosing their helper because the government won’t pay for one.
There needs to be a serious reformation of frame of minds in peoples heads to realise what is actually important.
I agree with this article. A teacher must be able to deploy the four competencies.
Sometimes the view of a student can help.
Make sure you create a situation where students can express their opinions. With many ideas from different students, you get an overview of the education variable.
In this article, I find the following sentence perfectly:
The ideas of students are a balm for immodesty of many teachers.
Give space and you will see that you get a lot of feedback and opinion.
Nevertheless, I believe that teachers have a difficult profession. The expectations are always high.
It is intended that students learn something degree. Not that you give them total parenting.
«What is the good teacher ‘; the question remains..
I believe the best circomstances are created by the student and teacher themselfves. I think they are both responsable for the environment around them. The foundation of a steady learning environment is based on trust. Therefore the teacher should get to know the student first. On the second place I think it’s a good thing that teachers have those attributes but we should also accept the fact that teachers are human and making mistakes is also human.
For developing and innovating a learning system or the personal competences of a teacher, teachers should ask for feedback.
During my study I was always aware of getting feedback and giving feedback. This tool was and is one of the most important thing for my learning process. I am constantly developing myself because of feedback and personal reflection. I believe that teacher and student should base their learning process on giving and receiving feedback from people around them. (And they should be trained in this as well).
Not all teachers see the potential in their students, it is nice to read that the teacher counts the opinion of their students and believes that they can change the world for the better. With this approach, students are more motivated and they want to learn and hence are more creative and willing to work. Currently, students often complain about the studies, classes and lecturers. A lot of them have no reason, but some students will surely have a good reason. The lecturer should work with students to look at their potential and believe that it is they who will create the future. And thanks to that teacher will be proud of the fact that he could give something back to their students.
P.S. Great photos! 🙂
Everyone is apart in different, they are individual and proud of themselves. I understand the teachers about the reason not to ask for the feedback because whenever you ask students about to give their opinion they always criticize and are never satisfied. The feedback is really important because when we look at the school system we see that it’s based on pupils.
Personally I think that frequently asking for feedback is really good for the teacher because he can improve the method of teaching and even change it. By doing that there will be some kind of trust communication with witch the trust in teacher and also respect will go up.
The profession of the teachers can be thought of as sacred because of the knowledge that is given over and over to others.
At first I can understand that teachers don’t want to ask students what is wrong with their school, because for sure they will criticize so much and everybody will shout. Because students love to complain, especially about their school, education system, teacher, etc.
But if the teacher can handle the debate et take out the most constructive and best ideas then the students can be the best people to ask what is wrong and to propose solution to the issues raised.
What the students found out is so true and coherent with our current world, but the problem might be that the people who decide have to decide educational system for the next generations and they are not near from the field.
I agree with the video. I think that Daniel Pink is right. If we want to change something in education, we should also or first of all ask students. People all the time work on education system, new methodologies, make changes, try to improve it. The truth is that they never ask students. What they expect from education, classes, teachers. For sure many times, students have a lot of interesting ideas but no one ever asked them.
I think it could be because of fear that some teachers have. Probably some of them don’t want to hear the truth, they are afraid that maybe than, will come out that they are not good. I know that it is really though job. However if you do it with passion, you are motivated, and you want to be better and improve your classes day by day and you create also kind of relation with your students I think it is the best way to be successful.
I agree with the article that being a good teacher can be the most rewarding and exciting job in the world – however, being a teacher who doesn’t work effectively can be stressful, painful, and exhausting. That is not a secret that students look up to their teachers and will thus try to mimic their dispositions. If they are rude or inappropriate, they will have an inappropriate model for their behavior. It is vital that students see teachers as a person with confidence, so that they follow their lead, and feel comfortable trusting them. Students, of all ages, need someone they can lean on, look up to, and be able to trust. I consider teachers to be firstly a good person and a high qualified specialist. My experience of being a student has shown that the best teachers are those who are more compassionate. Great educators form strong relationships with their students and show that they care about them as people. They are accessible, enthusiastic, warm and caring, sometimes staying at school after-hours to help students or get involved in school-wide committees and activities, and they demonstrate a commitment to the school. Of course, even very kind and compassionate teacher may not be high evaluated if they not have an objective during the lessons. When teacher is planning a lesson, the most vital part is the objective. What does the teacher want the students to take away from the lesson? If the objective is powerful, deep, and reflects what the teacher really wants students to learn, it will be reflected in the lesson. Indeed, teachers need to have a solid plan for the lessons.
I partially agree with this article, but in my opinion there two main issues that affect the benefits of education. I believe two key factors affecting the learning capabilities of children are, 1. The children’s situation and 2. The rationale behind the teacher choosing the line of work. Depending on the children’s desire and want to learn the results will vary and also how important improving their education is to them, i.e.: environment, social class, family history etc. . Regarding point 2. I believe a lot of teachers choose this line of work as there is a considerably good wage and very high holiday balances, also not labor intensive, and I believe these are wrong values and a wrong decision if this is why an individual decides to choose this line of work and has no keen interest on teaching, education and bettering people. I also believe that the skills and values that are listed to be needed in this article are very broad and not specific enough.
A teacher profession is one of the most difficult profession there is in my oppinion. Teachers are responsible for a large group of very active children, they have to be able to teach and know the methodology to do so, they have to listen, they have to be precize, they have to be… I can go on and on about what teachers have to be.Everyone expects for a teacher to be perfect, they shouldn’t make any mistakes because if they do, they have to deal with parents, school board and everything gets in to media as soon as something happenes. I know we can not really allow an irresponsible person to be a teacher, but we can forget that teachers are also just humans and not some superheroes. I think that our universities don’t give enough time while education for future teachers for practical classes. You actually learn almost everything from there. In my whole 3 years of university I had maybe 3 weeks of practical classes in primary school, where I tought maybe 1-2 weeks, 1 hour a day. That is nothing if you ask me. I can not say I am prepare to be a teacher and this is my last year. We all expect so much from teachers but our university doesn’t even give us the oppurtunity to learn how to be a good teachers. This is quite concerning if you ask me.
It’s easy to say that teachers have to be more inspiring and dedicated to his profession, but it’s not as easy to actually implement. This because I believe (as at many workplaces) that the administration can often claim to be motivated to a change, but how motivated is really the teachers? It’s easy to spit out that there must be a change, but then to actually implement change requires a completely different level of motivation. How do the school administration choose to deal with this and how willing are they to really change things once it requires a little bit of an effort? I think teachers who are in favor of a change, those who come up with ideas and suggestions for improvements in the education, often are met with oppositions. This is often the truth and this is something that lead to teachers that are not willing to give their thoughts about how to make things better, because they at some point realizes it is not worth the effort they put into it. This makes me angry and sad at the same time, how could one say that a change is needed and then put out the flame for those teachers that were brave enough to share their thoughts about the subject? No, something needs to be done within the school administration and the change of attitude towards not only each other but also the way we look at changes within the educational area. One could say that teachers are important for a whole country’s future population, without educated people and motivated teachers, what future is to come? This is for some reason a problem that often gets overseen.
Nowadays the teacher is not only a teacher but also a psychologist, educational consultant and in many cases also substitute parents. Being a teacher is a lifetime job, but the problem is that not everyone has the proper motivation. We have to realize that the teacher is not «Perpetuum mobile». I agree that feedback is very important and can contribute to better understanding between teacher and students. Excellent example is the exchanging, it means let to leading students their class. Students will discover non-traditional learning and understand that being a teacher is far more than simple. I also agree with the argument of financial evaluation of teachers according results of the class like in Sweden for example..
Teaching is a profession of self-renewing. Because teachers must improve themselves and they have to think innovatively. I think a good way to refresh themselves is to get ideas from students by asking them questions. Communication between the student and teacher is perhaps the most important thing that we can say. By looking at the students attitute towards the teacher you can see which things they enjoy, and the things that dont work so well. So, by reflecting on the issues in class, you can aim to modify them to improve the teaching methods adapted to the class so that the students will be more engaged. Being a good teacher is one of the worlds most sacred jobs, they have a huge responsibility. But in order to achieve this there is one obstacle they must overcome, which is to be open to development.
I believe that every young teacher at the beginning of his career, he wants to be the best, most interesting, inspiring and motivating. When it comes to him to collide with the reality of his idealized image of teacher who inspires, teaches, motivates – changed. Low wages, lack of support, the reluctance of children to learn makes the teacher changed his view. Becomes routine, boring, because he believes that his efforts will be in vain. In total, it is difficult to surprise. Unfortunately, many teachers do not have enough energy to collide with the reluctance of students to learn, bad behavior, and still be energetic and creative as he wanted. This is my opinion based on my observation from school, as a student….Sometimes they try they best but everything else doesn’t help to do it. Of course i don’t want to generalize the problem but sometime it is like this.
The only thing I can say that I agree with the article. Teachers should be capable of the 4 components. But still I think teachers are not perfect, that’s in my opinions impossible. The students should accept the fact that when they are failing the exams, it is not the fault of the teacher. Also if you think about that teachers in general are scarce. Highschool and universities do not have enough teachers, so they will accept faster a teacher who is not capable according to the four components. Ofcourse teachers will do them best to teach and they will maybe do better when the requirement are higher and maybe get paid more. In the end, you will have good and bad teachers. The bad teachers have maybe to be more educated, therefore should the government make investments. Because when the quality of education gets better, more people will have a job and the economy will grow.
In my opinion, Daniel Pink is right by saying if you ask students to express their opinion, they would do that. Sometimes I feel that some teachers prefer to talk but not communicate with their pupils. It is a shame but it is good that there are a couple of professors who provoke you and want to hear an opinion from you. This way you can gain not just knowledge but also develop confidence and your rhetoric skills. Teachers also can benefit from that enormously. I do agree that there are many things which make teacher a good professional. Teachers should have not just knowledge but also they must know how to teach properly. They need to understand interpersonal relantions quite well. They should have those skills mentioned in this article and be genuinely dedicated to their subject. I do agree that the teachers should have their salaries raised. Maybe this way they would become better specialists if they would have additional training. In my country, many teachers complain that they do not earn a lot and that they have to print many things with their own money. This should not happen and government must support them more.
Firstly, I would agree with the findings on competences, intelligence cognitive and emotional, values, political and administrative support from Dr Martins 2006 study. I also believe that it is imperative that students should have a good relationship with any teacher that they may have throughout their academic life- it is important that students feel comfortable with their teachers should they have any problems or need help. When at school, teachers are thought of the students’ guardians and if any problems arise, teachers should be ready to deal with these.
I do not think that pupils should have the same teacher in primary school for the full 6/7 years- the teacher should change every year so that they are used to the routine for when they arrive at high school.
It is obvious that teachers need to be good role models- but sometimes they can be such a good role model for their students that they themselves want to become teachers and inspire others.
According to me, the big problem is that the teachers are not satisfied with their jobs. Increasing problems in school overwhelm the teachers. In Poland, young people in school are getting worse. There are often obviated teachers. Teachers very often complain about their work. I think that without the love of their work is impossible good for them to perform.
I think about my mum, whose is teacher in nursery school and primary school. She loves her work, communicate all the children as best she can and the children often render to my mom a hug or kiss. Also, very often the older children who already have their phones are sending text messages to my mother. This shows that if the teacher loves his/her work, school, kids, class that science and education brings a lot of good…
In my opinion, if students are interested in study process, not only for studying subjects but also in student organizations, and how things make better etc, then there is more better results for all education. Student and teacher need to work completely together, and to understand one proffesion importance, to be good at one proffesion wich student are studying. I agree with Daniel Pink, that study process need to be create that students can give their opinion, their viev about things and take thought from teachers. Lessons need to be creative, that student need to be active, need to think, need to discuss with teacher and other students, share with so many good ideas etc. In nowadays, education realy is in very bad situation i think, so in universities need something to change, we need to grow more different teachers, who really could change something in education. When we study about how to be teacher, actually we are learning how to be a good person, good giud for children, not only how to teach different theoretical things. To be a teacher is something more, and universities task also is to help understand students how to be good teacher for children all needs. This is very hard, so teacher need to listen in students opinion, thinking and just working together can do big things.
Trained teacher with the gift of teaching, charisma and best teaching methods is essential. The teacher should be able to look at all of their students and adapt to their needs. He knows the answer to all, even the most difficult questions, constantly learns and learns something new, is in constant contact with their students. The teacher must know how to listen and is able to develop creativity and give your disciple new ideas into action. Not every teacher is perfect, but at least he SHOULD try to go in the right direction. The main thing is that the students themselves were trying to assimilate to his teacher, imitate him and put up as a model.
we need give to place students ideas in education system it should not be mandatory. On this way we can provide to join them in this process therefore this situation makes them motive becasue someone is asking their ideas for effection something about their life .On this way they could be much more creativity and this event forces them to think much and they can imagine muhc more and different and that provide succes and scients. Also it make to them so fast for innovation and creatvity .I think that good teacher can make to motive if he /she is enough for that subject .Student can notice difference with their teacher so teacher have a role to play in education . For me ,the best teacher ; who care my ideas and who listen to me because we are big part of the education because we can not imagine education with teacher also without student .So we should work together .
According to me central point is the contact between student and teacher. I had in my life so many teachers. Each of them was different. But today when I mention the best teachers associate those who have the time to take care of my problems. Those teachers who were able to devote to me though a little bit of attention to me were always idols. I met also teachers who did not want to establish any relationship. Likewise, I had the superior at work – a mentor whose task was to teach me new abilities in the profession of football referee. My mentor not care about good touch. It is not allowed me to improve my skills. The problem was good communication and empathy which in this time failed with the teacher – my mentor.
Nobody is perfect and everyone is individual. What I like to say with this is, that no teacher is teaching in a perfect way and so every teacher should be glad about a constructive feedback about his/her way of teaching. A supervision from a school-colleague is a possible way of getting a feedback, but I think that almost a better feedback is the one which is given from the respective students. It is them who have to learn with the teacher’s help and so they can say best what the teacher could improve in his/her attitude and methods. Moreover everyone is individual means that all students have different interests and so by asking the students, they could tell the teacher which contents they are interested in more or less.
Teachers and students are the main things in education. From teacher depend how much students are interested in learning process. Teacher should ask students for they opinion, thoughts.Sometimes student opinion is very useful. Because some of teachers are old-fashioned, but students mind are modern. If students will be involved in learning process then students will feel more helpful. Learning process are more interesting if students can take a important part in this, share their opinion and thoughts with other. In my school we have a lot of theory and teachers just give us theory, not so many teachers who try to ask for our opinion, it is not interesting for them.
Very nice photos.Positive or negative relationships between teachers and students students’ academic, social, emotional and behavioral aspects can affect the positive and negative aspects of the developments.Students and teachers, depending on the nature of the relationship they have established with each other can be defined as good or bad. majority of the students time to spend with teachers and friends at school. Actually there are not good and bad teachers. and there are not also good and bad students. Required to be specified with good and bad, is the nature of the relationship between teachers and students. Required to be specified with good and evil, is the nature of the relationship between teachers and students.
mutual trust between teachers and students-worth-it is important to build a relationship based on dialogue. These three important part of human relationships at school ;RELATIONSHIP = VALUE +TRUST + DIALOGUE as possible to formulate the form. Students of the teachers are very much affected.
We are always reading and working same things and almost all of them are about theories and I think we should get rid off from theories .We should do something about practice .I think the teachers could not give good education to children if they obey government’s rules and management’s rules ,because the teachers and students are not free in the school so I think education should be free because freedom brings to sucess. And I think schools should not be official institution because everybody should go there and nothing should determine to go there and I believe that the teachers can not give a good education if they depend to somewhere .
In my opinion it is necessary as a University, an educational system and as a teacher, for asking feedback from its students and evaluate their programs. Only in this way you can develop and innovate yourself as a Univeristy, an educational system and as a teacher. Its sometimes very scarry to ask for feedback, because you might hear something which is not nice to hear. Still, it is the best way if you want to give the best for the students. In an anymous way, students will be always very honest and would like to have the best education as well, so they will give their best ideas about it. After every subject/semester there should be a kind of anymous evaluation and there also should be space for the students who would like to tevaluate it in private or want to talk about it in a debat.
I think that nobody is perfect and even teachers can not be perfect. Each of us is different and one person can’t be likeable for everybody, so it isn’t easy to be loved by every child in the classroom. For me the best teachers were those who understood their field and loved it. Such teachers always had a natural authority. In my opinion the teacher must love his job, it’s base. If he doesn’t, he transfers negative attitude to children. Student feedback is important especially for beginning teachers. Often we can’t realize how we behave in the class and children can give us valuable feedback.
Having a good relationship with a teacher is very important for students. A good student- teacher relationship provides students and teachers with positive learning and teaching experiences. They feel comfortable with each other which is really important for students. If the student finds the teacher to be unapproachable, there’s a risk that the student will hesitate to ask questions when they face a problem which may result in them falling behind. I think asking for feedback is a great idea because not only can teachers and students begin to work towards solving any problems there may be but it also shows the students that their teachers cares about what they have to say which I believe is a really positive thing.
The bounding between teachers and students are to me very important. There are some preschools who have the same teacher for 8 years long. I think that isa good thing. I switched from teachers every 2 years. So at the time you just getting to know eachothert he teacher gets a new group and the students a new teacher to get used to. At the university i dont feel any bounding at all with the teachers and i think that is a sad thing. To me it is more important to get motivated by teachers then to receive information (wich will be disribed in books anyways) so the more important job of teachers is, i think, getting to know the students and motivate them because you as a teacher are the rollmodel and students will always look up to you.
Teacher is important person in pupil´s (student´s) life. They spend a lot of time together, that´s why it´s important to create good relationship to each other. Teacher and relationships with teacher can influence children´s attitude to school and education. Teacher is a model for children. He gives them not only theoretical knowledges. He teaches and educates also by his behaviour and his action. In my opinion, it is important to establish common rules between teacher and children. Children have to know what is permitted and prohibited. Teacher should to know requests of the children. It´s important to know opinions of others. Feedback is really important for both children and teacher.
If a teacher cares for his/her students, he/she truly wants to know what theay are of his/her teaching style. So it is in my opinion both-way-evaluation is unalterable.
I am saying evaluation , because giving the teacher feedback what competences he or she has to have, is a form of evaluation.
But besides the political and admenestrative recognition of a teachers work, maybe the recognition of teachers in the entire society has to be improved. As the xample of Finnland showed us, teachers work much better with knowledge of the support of a whole society in their back.
I tottaly agre about teachers asking and geting student feedback. Some teachers d othat a lot, some of them don’t realy, but in my opinion, the two factors that influence the most on this are: The subject itself – if it’s more technical subject there is just learning and understanding stuff and it’s mostly about that and if it’s more theoretical subject, then communication becomes more important. And the other factor is the teacher himself. His view in the subject, his interest into presenting the subject to students, his vision about subject, his teaching methods and everything that diferents him from other teachers. Of course there are other outside factors also included. But generaly speaking, questioning and getting student feedback is absolutely one of the most important things in every education. The non-attendance, bad grades and loss of interest in the subject are just resulting consequences of bad feedback, because teacher didn’t know or didn’t have time so ask and or to react accordingly. Afcourse a lot of students in a class and tight schedules make things a lot more difficult, so sometimes it may be hard even to cover some basic things about the subject. But definetly this is also a must for good education.
The teacher-student relationship is one of great importance, but all too often today with increasing class sizes, over-extended roles required by teachers, and an ever-growing focus on assessment-driven learning, this can sometimes be overlooked.
However, the fact remains that a high-quality teacher with whom students share a positive relationship cannot be overstated. I remember those teachers in my life who really took a genuine interest in my learning, development, and experience in school. Unfortunately, I also recall those who tended toward curt remarks and unapproachable attitudes. Nonetheless, it was those caring teachers who made school and learning enjoyable, attainable, and worthwhile.
In my opinion, during the teaching-learning procedure, not only the students but also the teacher gains knowledge, new ideas and morals that will guide them for their rest of their lives. It seems to me that being in touch and working with children, is one of the most interesting experiences that you could ever have, which indisputable influences positively each aspect of your daily life. So, it is necessary, during this procedure to create the appropriate environment and atmosphere for children to be comfortable and motivated to express their ideas, their thoughts, their doubts, their opinions and their emotions which are so truthful. In this way, both teacher and students will benefit cognitively, psychologically, morally and emotionally.
What is more, as far as the characteristics of the teacher is concerned, from one side, I partly agree with the conclusions of Dr. Maeve Martin’s study. I agree that a teacher should be creative, imaginative, affective, emotional, empathetic and critical, to be able to adapt in every situation, to motivate the students, to capture their attention, and communicate her thoughts. To be able to inspire the children, to motivate them express their ideas and feelings, to be a good role model for them. Also, to be a responsible, patient, tolerant, kind, reliable and confident person, to be able to cooperate with the parents of the children, to be friendly and helpful. In addition, to be able to create the appropriate environment, to use the ideal teaching tools in order the teaching-learning procedure to be ideal for the special needs and abilities of each student.
But from the other side, we should have in mind, that the possession of these skills is a long and difficult process. We should not expect from teachers to have all these abilities from the beginning. Every day, during her whole professional career and her contact with the students will try to improve her work and herself. No one is perfect. But it seems to me that the most important thing for a teacher is to be willing and motivated to try every day to learn new things, to improve her job and herself, to see through the eyes of her students, and try to do the best for both of them.
Last but not least, in order for both teacher and students to benefit from the teaching-learning procedure, we should not forget that this does not depend only from the abilities and the attitude of the teacher. The capitalist system that we live in provokes many difficulties in all the sectors of our life, so as to the educational sector also. Some of them, such as, the lack of the administrative and political support of education and schools, the badly written –and many times disorientating- content of the books, the difficult living conditions that nowadays the majority of the people experience, make the teaching-learning procedure even more difficult and as a result neither the teacher can do her job well nor the students can benefit of this procedure.
To sum up, we should have in mind all the people and the institutions that are involved and play a big role in the sector of the education. So, if we want to improve the teaching-learning procedure, we have to improve or change each of them.
I remember when I was in primary school, around 7 years old, a teacher asked us to draw our favourite profession, what we see ourselves in the future. Most of classmates drew firefighters, ballerinas, musicians (especially singers or guittar players) … and I drew myself as a teacher. My mother kept that drawing and she gave me back when I was 18. That year I had to decide which faculty I want to go to. And that drawing refreshed my memory how I always dreamed about becoming a teacher. When I look back that teacher was a good role model to me – she inspired and motivated me to become a teacher. I want to become just like her: responsible, open-minded, patient, tolerant, empathetic, sympathetic, reliable and confident, funny and friendly… a «second mother». In conclusion, a teacher must really be a good example for children. Children are like mirrors and can reflect our mistakes and good competences.
Teacher is one of the most important professions in the world. They are preparing children and after school students to grown up life. Teacher is a tool of a society that have a great responsibility to it. And to have the good teachers we have to make their education better at first, we have to prepare professional who knows what to do at a class and how to do it. The sad thing is that a lot of teachers nowadays are very narrow-minded and can’t see a bit far from their books. So every state needs to improve their teachers preparation system.
Teachers have a big responsibility. They are in charge of teaching a lot of studetns during their career and influence the lifes of their students in doing so.
To be able to do a good job i agree totally with the article, the perfect teacher should have the skills that are listed above. But i don’t think that you can find one person, who contains all of these abilities.
But every teacher should revise his own work an try to constantly work on his or herself. For this the list of skills and compentences can be a good starting point. Through it teachers can learn what students expect from them.
Also i think that in the very education of teacher should be payed more attention to the teaching skills than mainly the content of the subjects. Both things are equally important.
I agree, that a lot of this attributes are important for teachers, but the problem is, that not every skill or attribute is possible to learn. You need to expierince in life. ou should travel an get in contact with many different culters and people to learn from them. But today its very difficult to travel or experience new things. Because the society says that you have to start early with your study and earn money as fast as you can. The other problem is that the reward for teachers is not high enough. «Even» in Germany we have to less teachers which means to many students in clases. Of course you can send your children to privat shools, but only a few have the money to do this…and this is not fair.
An other problem is that we learn a lot of useless stuff in the shools. We should get prepared for life and therefore we should get tought from teachers who experienced life…who are happy and satisfied, who love to teach and not just to have a job.
I think the point to be a good teacher is to be happy, autentic and selfconfident.
Students all around the world have to learn to get their knowledge. The same should be with the teachers. They have to learn all their life to be better , to know modern facts, to know the news of the subject . They cannot stay still becouse world is changing and ours knowledge is changing. They are obligated to help students but there is huge number of teachers which dont want to help childrens. Always students have different point of view on a subject and they ask questions to teachers. If teacher dont know the answer or he think in a totally different way he dont want to help. This is really bad way of doing things. How teacher can grown his experiences? I think by cooperating with students to have open and as much wide point of view.
Teachears how successful, students as successful as teachers.. because; if techhers how to teach, students learn the more…
I think; teaching is both science and art. İts soo difficult. Teachersbare role models for students. So; teachers need to have many qualifications. Such as; manager, leader, consultant, supporting… Teaching is one of the most complicated jobs today. It demands broad knowledge of subject matter, curriculum, and standards; enthusiasm, a caring attitude, and a love of learning; knowledge of discipline and classroom management techniques; and a desire to make a difference in the lives of young people. With all these qualities required, it’s no wonder that it’s hard to find great teachers.
A good teacher is one who is able to bond with his/her students, to understand and to resonate with their feelings and emotions. A good teacher has a positive mental attitude, is flexible and is open to change. A good teacher should also be a role model to the students. Good teachers: have a sense of purpose, have expectations of success for all students, tolerate ambiguity, demonstrate a willingness to adapt and change to meet student needs, are comfortable with not knowing, reflect on their work, learn from a variety of models, enjoy their work and their students.
Dont forget ! the cant learn person aren’t student ! that cant be taught are teacher…
After studying hard, and having great enthusiasm for a teaching career, it can come as a shock to your system to try your skills as a student teacher. It’s most likely that you’ll find it tiring, and at times challenging. And, it’s a new way of seeing the classroom and being a part of it from your own time as a classroom pupil.Read all the materials you’ve been given about student teaching prior to entering the classroom. Trying to wing it, without plans that you believe in, or to catch up on unread portions as you’re going won’t help you while you’re actually in the classroom.Be open to criticism. As a student teacher think that making mistakes is normal; so don’t make anything of it. Bear in mind that no one is perfect. Even experts sometimes get off track when they are distracted. Just don’t give up, persist and you will improve with practice.Talk with the teacher who is responsible for overseeing what you’re doing. Ask what his or her teaching philosophy or expectations are, along with learning about the expected teaching program for the duration of your time working with him or her. Be sure to find out whether you have free reign or restrictions on teaching methods, topics, and other relevant issues. Also aim to have a regular meet-up time for discussion or asking questions as you work through your student teacher time.
There is a saying about education that everybody knows «Lifelong learning». This is not for only students. This is also for teachers. Teacher have the years of learning and practicing of course. There is no possibility for a student to know more than a teacher. But, when it comes to ideas, because they are individual, everybody’s is important. Ideas are affected by knowledge from one aspect, but not totally. Some teachers don’t want the students to share ideas just because they think that they can handle by themselves better. But it is ridiculous. If a student has a good idea, the teacher need to help him to improve it or support him. It is not only benefical for teacher to think from different aspects but also good for students to have a feeling of freedom and a desire to think about anything to have ideas. The way of this course is good because of it. Our teacher likes it very much to listen to our ideas. He tries to inspire us by different stories and theories. It makes us think and focus better to the lesson.
The difference I realized here in contrast to Germany is the personal relation which docents do have to their students here. To address a professor with his first name would be unimaginable in my country – so the personal contact students and professors do have here is really great. Also the smaller classes are so enriching, there`s really the possibility to have a conversation about a theme or to ask your teacher if you didn`t understand something instead of writing an email after the class!
But what I also noticed that studying here is more like school in Germany, students don`t work that independent, but well, I guess there are pros and cons for everything.
In any case the list of properties students such as professes should possess is very desirable but also difficult to realize – professors and teachers are also just humans and sometimes I think society, parents and students expect a lot of them. But I really liked these whole evaluation ideas, I think the importance is just to keep on trying to steadily improve yourself.
I wish to borrow the following expression you’ve used: “the quality of being a student is to be learned” to say that most of the time we (students) don’t see how lucky we’re that we can participate in the learning process, that we have the opportunity to study and develop ourselves through this. And it is a “gift” as for us (students) as for teachers who are opened to receive our experiences, opinions and ideas. However in the most of the classes I was participating so far teachers weren’t that way. If I look at the list of the characteristic that teacher should have, mentioned in the article and compare it with my experiences in the classrooms I can tell that Slovene teachers need to learn a lot. Of course depends on the person, but still. As a student and pupil in Slovenia I’ve missed the following things: innovation, creativity, capacity of a teacher to adapt to new situation and people, using of motivational techniques (not just learning about them), teacher’s happiness in what he/she is doing, inspiration and the fact that the professor is affable to students and parents. Until I came to Spain, I was sure that the last one is not possible because there will always be a limit of big respect, maturity and experience between student and teacher but I’m starting to change the opinion now. I don’t know if it’s connected with the culture, but I’m here in Spain always positively impressed about the relations between students and professors and I hope I would be able to bring this with me to my country.
I’m agree with evrything was said. The four points evocated are true and that something we should work on. That is true that the teacher has a particular relation in the child education, so of course he has a lot of responsabilities and each point evocated is one of those responsabilities.
And also the teacher teacher doesn’t have to be « perfect ». It’s important to rember that education is not only at school. So the teacher has to know where he has to take place, make the relation between what we receive at « school » and what we learn every moment of our life.
So when i’m reading this article i’m telling that is really a good compromise to take account of all parts of education.
If students answer easily and undoubtedly when they are asked questions, it is because they have a good teacher who is a guide for them. Making students express their own ideas freely is not something easy. It needs mental effort. And only few teachers can achieve this. In my opinion being a guide is the first rule of being teacher because teacher is not a person who come to class say hi! Teachers can make students more creative by showing them unlimited sources, helping them by motivating, making them use the language correctly, inspiring them by showing their works, improving students abilities on many areas, teach them how to be responsible of their behaviours, making them feel confident by acting friendly. If a teacher can do all of them, undoubtedly s/he is the best teacher because even though they seems easy, being capable of all of them is considerably hard. Additionally, classroom atmosphere is very important in learning process. Teacher is the one who make it comfortable for students. Every process happens here so students need to feel safety. If teachers provide it, i am sure ever process will end up successfully. Beside, if students are all attention, it is a sign of good teacher because rising to notice sometimes can be hard for teachers. I know some teachers who cannot take class under control which affect learning and teaching process in a bad way. In the mean time being mature of the teachers steps in. Thanks to their maturity, they change class friendly atmosphere and help students to feel happy and motivated. Briefly, teacher is the model who make students successful person or make them fail.
I can’t do anything more than totally agree with this article. It is very important that the teacher is a role model, a inspirer. That it is someone who is truly passionate about their profession and can convey a wealth of knowledge in a good way. Our teachers are people that are a big part of the students developing as people, and that is a great responsibility and not something that anyone can handle. So I really agree that there should be higher standards in the education of the teachers, so that we can get better teachers and better educations, since this is something that will affect the whole countries population. With better teachers there will be less people who will loose interest in learning, and that will in turn develop to a more educated society. Starting with good educated teachers is the way to go to start a virtuous circle.
I agree with this article. A good teacher listening to the children, empathy and motivation to them. I think student is like a mirror to teacher. If teacher what want to see, before they must reflect on thoughts to students. Teacher should be sample of all kinds of students. The aim of teacher must not be only enter and exit this course or salve one’s conscience. If teacher become interwined with students, teacher may recognize them more closely and teacher can help with their problems. Especially elementary school teachers… in this way students will not be afraid from teacher and they will not abstain from friends. Finally teachers can educate more enterprising, creative and social students.
Primarily we are teachers,guides..We musn’t forget that. It is important for us to be like a «superhero» figure in their eyes. Everybody will have their own opinion on this because it is impossible to please everybody at the same time in class. It is very difficult to say what a good teacher is when I am still a student and have seen my share of what a teacher should do.Good teachers form strong relationships with their students and show that they care about them as people. A good teacher respects all students and encourages good performance and gives affection to the pupils, makes them understand what emotion is. She/he should be patient and kind, flexibile and resourceful, tolerant and open minded with a good sense of humour. Enthusiastic and enjoys teaching. should be honest, imaginative and creative. His/her class should be a mixture of learning by doing and theoretical learning and should be fun as well. A teacher should be a person you can always speak to and be able to give you some advice in case you need help. He/she also needs to be friendly but also a little strict so students pay respect.
For me, a good teacher is with a good oratory skills, highly professionally, he is knowledgeable in the industry and are competent in the industry, and he is able to interact and communicate with students. Good teacher have must be very competent in their subject of study, discipline. Must be able to assume that also students can teach him something. This is very important. Always should follow up on progress, innovations and in heart to feel forever young! He must be a leader, so that can engage students and captivate. That there wont be that situation in class that you look of the professors and think about how quickly to get to work, home, or out of lecture. Student must have that feeling that he look at professor and you want something else…more and more to know and hear. Teacher must be responsive, supportive. But most important with their story invigorates students to work on.
I absolutely agree with this article. Qualifications of a good teacher was explained very well. But some of these qualifications is temperament feature. So people can not be win these features with a learning way. For example, tolerance, patience, diligence, empathy, kindness, etc..
In many countries, the number of students in classes is said to be very crowded. İn Turkey ‘is the same too . In this case, the teacher’s performance is falling. Therefore the quality of education is falling. The number of students is reduced in classes. New problems are going to need qualified teachers. States are hiring unqualified people for meet the lack of teacher. The quality of education is falling again. To increase both quantity and quality is always difficult.
Teachers’ salaries are not good enough in many countries. The task of the teacher is very important. If people have economic problems, we can not expect a good performance from them. In particularly ,If people have economic problems. Teachers spends most of salary for his/her students in Turkey. They and give students a lot of labor. Therefore teachers deserve a good economic income.
I think it is good to encourage to students to give ideas and ask their opinions on situations. It allows them to time to think and be creative. Asking about education is a good and productive way to get student to express their opinion as they are the ones facing education every day. I feel teachers do have a main role in inspiring students to be creative and think of new and fresh ideas but I feel parents are also responsible. They should work as a team so that a child can benefit the most. Both are responsible for the education process they should receive support both in school and in the home. One of the most important things to do as a teacher is to keep a student interested so that they will be motivated. When training a teacher they need to put more emphasis on this skill along with everything else a teacher will need to be successful, so that students can have an input onto the ideas of the future.
To be a good teacher means to know how to make students interested in the topic and how to motivate them to learn. He should be totally committed to teaching because otherwise he can successfully discourage students to the subject. It may depend on him which way his students will follow in the future.. because he gives an example. Teacher’s work should be appreciate because it is not only time that he spends in the school building but there is a lot of work during his free time included. Comunication between teachers and students is so important, teacher should be open to students’ opinions, questions and fresh ideas. Pupils must feel free to express themselves at school. It is better when students and teachers cooperate because then they can together improve the teaching-learning process. They have to know each other opinions and be open for changes.
While reading this article the first thought that came to my mind.. that teacher needs to be this perfect person, with so many qualities required that you can’t really count them… and this makes me think of how honorable this profession is and how people are not realizing this and how high people should appreciate good teachers.
Another thought that came to my mind is, that the number of students in one class should be lowered, I know this may seem unrealistic, because it would cost more and more teachers would be needed, but I think it is too hard to live up to these qualities with 25 children in one class (at least that is the situation in Latvia). Because-
– Among all these qualities, capturing the attention of a student and most importantly – keeping it through whole lesson is one of the things that teachers struggle the most nowadays, the more students there are, the harder it gets
– The teacher should be the one who sees a talent in every child and help to develop it
– Teacher should listen to every child’s opinion, which is hard to do in class with many students
After the reading of this article I am quite frustrated and sad. It seem like impossible to me to put on the teachers all of this responsibility for the student’s creativity. I think that parents can and they should change or increase the motivation of the childs as well. We were talking at the meeting about the motivation coming from inside and according to me this kind of motivation can be already supported during your childhood. The children are more suggestible and accessible to a new ideas. They can resolve some dificult tasts very easy and with a lot of fantazy. And just in this moment role of the parents is not replaceable.
I am sure to be a good and successful teacher is hard job. Specially in this situation all over the world where the people are mostly close minded to new ideas. And if they are open minded the school or the company doesn’t have enough of the tools and resources. I just can hope that there will be a lot of another creative accessible teachers in the future.
Looking back at my time in high school, most of the time I was very lucky with my teachers. I had teachers who really loved their job and really wanted us, their pupils, to learn something and not just to repeat things in the exams. Of course, I also had teachers who weren’t that good. Now , that some years have gone by, I can say that I still have a good connection to my old school and some teachers! And I am not the only pupil of my school who can say that. This has also something to do with the school form I went to, it was a comprehensive school. For me that’s actually the best school form.
Un companero de mi clase ha enviado ese video por facebook hoy. Creo que tambien puede ser interesante para todos nosotros: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPaQOT4ybw0
I really think that this is the way we should also think about students. As their ideas are new, still authentic and very prospering, we can have a big profit if we are listending to them. But it´s our job to ask students for their ideas, opinions and worries.
In Austria in the field of school pedagogics, a lot of thinks changed in the last year. There was also the discussion about «how to create a better learning environment?» and «how should a shool building look like?» for example. Our teacher on university also asked us to draw a picture of the perfect school (how we would imagine a perfect school)! As i remember 90 percent of the students were drawing a school building, green areas and sports areas. But just 10 percent also put children in their paintings, which shows that we were at least not really thinking of the main group which is made school for. Concerning «better learning environments» the ministery of education organised a group of experts to create new ideas. There were 8 adults sitting in this group, thinking how school should look like. But nobody asked a single student!
I agree with D.Pink that it is very important to ask students questions, to give them a chance to share what they think about subjects, teachers, and school in general… Asking good (open-ended and not leading) questions is productive, positive and creative, but it has to be combined with listening and being intent on understanding what the person who is talking is really saying. It is important to wait for the answer and not provide the answer. Questions can help us identify the right problems and generate creative solutions.
Not asking students for their opinions is a missed opportunity because no one knows better about how school is going than the students themselves.
I totally agree that student’s success is getting better from teachers’ work. The teacher is the best example for students, they need to give their knowledge to students in a lot of different – interesting ways. The teacher is the first person who creates each student. In that reason between teacher and student need to be very good relationships. For teacher to understand what he need to teach more and what less, and for the student what he can get from the teacher how much or less work they need to put in studying process. I think that teacher’s work is very important because teachers give us knowledge which we will give further on our future life.
There is well written, what the teacher should be, what his competence are right, what abotu his right cognitive and emitional intelligence in this article. I liked the sentence: «The teacher must know how to attract attention and work on the concentration of students». I think that this is very difficult in practice, but it not impossible. Nowadays, the children are very unruly and for teacher himself often must be very challenging to keep his concentrate in this unruly class. However, good and experienced teacher dosn´t give time, space for carelessness in classes. I think, that very good way to attract the attention of children is asking for their opinions, experiences and thoughts. I think, this way is very beneficial to teachers, because they will know a lot of important information about pupils. They can form their next teaching on the basic of pupils responses. Also, it is very beneficial for children. I think that this kind of teaching is interesting for pupils and they are not boring. They can remember a lot of information easily. However, we have classes, where the teachers must discuss the theory more serious manner. I think, that this is possible to do by a fun way for children also.
At my basic school, we often filled in a questionnaire on the topic – «do we like teachers and their teaching? Why, why not?» or we could express our opinion, what we would like to change. However, I must say that I spent nine years in this school and there it not much has changed for the better during this time. Therefore I think that it is important to be interested in the opinions and ideas of students , but also it is very important thing to teachers know how to work with them.
Here, two sides can be distinguished: the student’s and education’s. Students embody new generations, new ideas, new trends, in other words: they embody creativity. However, students have been governed by an utterly old-fashioned institution, called education. I believe that the thesis of the text reveals and highlights a significant issue: the lack of political and administrative support… Because that’s what education is being governed by. Politics and Administration own the keys to answer to all these problems. Both can modify legislation and create laws to change the approach of teaching and give teaching staffs the opportunity to be more qualified for nowadays’ demands. I consider nowadays’ demands to be the qualities mentioned above: competences, cognitive and emotional intelligence, values… Added to new qualities that we once didn’t use to hear (or read) such as «empathy», «happiness», «motivation», «communication», «innovation» or «imagination». But none of them can be reached if no action is led by the starting point, politics & administration. How can students embody and carry new values and how can we talk about everyone’s future if education is still turned towards the past?
This question needs a answer, but we can’t blame any teacher for that as they’ve always been trained that ancient way. Students, and I agree, must be the leaders and the managers of their own future. They need to be asked, because they are those who study for their lives. Until we reach this point, we have a long path to go. Or, we can simply wait for the keystone to get involved and propose some educational reforms, and the rest will automatically follow.
Through this text, we can retain three important main aspects. Firstly, the students who have the right to speak, secondly the professors’ competences and qualities, and finally the lack of political support.
Indeed, it is very important to let speak students about what they think for education, in order to help it to improve. Because education cannot only be managed by the teaching body or politics, it is a set in which each part has to be involved. Thus, I really appreciated this article in which we can see that students can also give advice, as well as their opinion. Just one thing seems to be illusory… That one person (in this case a professor) can have all the competencies and qualities mentioned in the article. But in order to improve this, I really think that political support is the key, regarding professors’ trainings. Indeed, with the new general wish to modernize education and with the new points of view about education’s techniques, only new administrative measures can really promote this.
This article is very popular with me. I like the way how is thought about students, their opinions, dreams, etc. I agree that students should be asked more times for their purposes, aims, interests, future; the reason why students are main goals in education. But I think is not enough just asking for opinions, more than this, teachers should take into account the pupils opinions.
Also, I focus on higher salary for teachers. They have really big and significant roles in society. But I can’t imagine this is possible since in my country is not available money for schooling, higher salary, teacher’s trainings, etc.
This article is also very interested for students who want to become a social worker. The main point is to give youngsters place where they are heard and taken into account.
I think that students should be asked about their opinion more often. Not only students of the university and teenagers, but children as well. They sometimes know what is missing for the class. Teachers can be helped to improve their teaching and correspond better to student’s needs. It is not so easy, as it may seem, being a teacher. A good teacher. They should be responsible, patient, reliable, motivating, friendly. They should really care and love their students, because then they will try their best in order to help them learn and develop their personality. Unfortunately it is also true, that teachers, who are not good enough in their work, do not want to be evaluated, they are not willing to go through this. Without doubt children sometimes can be really hard, just because they are honest and tell whatever they have in their minds. And it is true that not all of teachers are ready to accept this…
It is true that pupils should be asked more often their opinion, at least at certain age, when they really want to learn something. They may have new or other ideas, the professor doesn´t consider and especially if they are going to be teachers in their future life too, it is appropriate if they start thinking about teaching methods already as students, before they really practice it. But I have made the experience in school and university that only those teachers ask for pupils´ opinions if they are doing a good job. Those who could need some help, rarely do it. A teacher who is doing a good job can better pass on contents to pupils than someone who does not have certain skills, like for example the ones mentioned in this article.
Due to conclusion of the students making research about teachers, it seems that teachers should be angels 🙂 It shows teachears as pure perfection. I think it is hard to obtain all of these atributes in one person, however, the research shows good direction. The problem is that usually teaching is not a real vocation of the people who become teachers. It often happens that they decide to work as that because they don’t have any other idea or possibility. And this is a serious mistake. Why people who doesn’t know what to do in life do not apply for the position of a doctor or a lawyer? Because they need qualifications and they are checked from that. With becoming a teacher it is much easier, but in my opinion, it should change! Teachers are often a key to the future of young people. If we see somebody’s engagement, interest, happiness, we automatically want to know these people, want to learn about things they fancy. We want to be like them. That’s why I think the choice of our profession should be chosen more accurately.
I like the way of view how you think about students. You ask for the opinion of the students and in your opinion this is very important. We as students know what we want and also how we can make this happen. We are a really good source to change the system in to a better one in the future. I think more teachers needs to this and not only think for us, but with us to reach their goals. What actually should be our goals as well.
I also like the idea that we also as students can expect something from teachers. We are not really knowing that we can, we assume that they’re qualified and are good teachers. But i think if a teacher is not, students needs to step up and ask for better lessons.
We had this once in my home university, it was a really good professor and did a lot of investigations and had a good knowledge about the work in the field. But he really couldn’t teach, so all the information was not coming through. You really need other skills to be a (good) teacher.
Well said!
I just found a really well fitting video/talk of a student that actually was asked many times, what he’d like to be.
And I think I will not write more than seven lines today, because everything more said would be a unworhty spoiler what Logan LaPlante could tell you on his own: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h11u3vtcpaY
Enjoy his ten minutes talk on the question How could people or pupils become happier people!
I totally agree with the article that student achievement depends on the teacher. A teacher affects students every day at school, with their knowledge, experience, examples of practice and how students can motivate to the matter. I also agree with the plans and objectives that were set out in an article on the study, Dr. Maeve Martin in 2006. I wonder if the plans were fulfilled in 2013.
Sometimes, despite the fact that the teacher tries to motivate a child is not enough, some kid just tired of the topic, or it can not, or has exogenous problems and it is affecting his performance. I have experience with many teachers, good předmětbyl boring for me because of the bad motivation of teachers, but rather very difficult subject, which enjoyed me because of teachers.
I think that teachers should undergo courses, training and requalification to know how to motivate children to study well, because children are our future.
I agree that teachers should have many of those attributes, because the better the
teachers skills are, the better is the education and learning outcome of the pupils.
So the aim has to be to have the best teachers for all the children.
But that is almost impossible to get, because some of the attributes are not possible to get through learning.
Also, I agree with the idea of higher salary and requierements for teachers, since they have such a important role in society. But there are too few teachers already now (in Germany), because there is not enough money available and classes are too big, how will it be affordable to higher salaries and requierements, and keep the class sizes (or even reduce it)?
Students (pupils) are the main goal in education. And teachers are people, who teach them, so, educators must ask to pupils ideas, thoughts, because teachers are based on pupils. Teachers must understand how to plan their lessons and the best way is to ask to people, who is the reason for these lessons.
My previous learning process was without asking to us (pupils) our ideas, opinions and thoughts, so for me it is a new thing and I should train myself to give my opinion. Of course there are some subjects, which is too theoretical, but maybe teacher is able to find a way, how to discuss with pupils. For everyone has a vision about teacher’s profession, school and learning process organization. I agree about all these ideas, which are mentioned about teacher profession in this article.
I agree with the view that the success of the student to a large degree depends on the teacher. From my own experience I can see how a good, well-trained, professional teacher with the necessary skills well developed influences my learning in a positive way. On the other hand, I can see that such teachers are in minority, whether it is primary school, high school or university. I’m sure there isn’t one simple solution to solve this problem, to ‘make teachers better’ but one of the factors that would help in my opinion would be the change of teachers’ image in the opinion of society. Because if the public started to appreciate the influence, importance, and difficulties of a teacher’s job, the teachers themselves would feel more appreciated, needed, and the rise of motivation might result in better approach to students, bigger devotion to work and a better development of necesarry teaching skills.
