There is no denying that an important aspect of being in the teaching profession is to plan ahead. A teacher can spend hours of their free time developing lesson plans, weekly plans and termly plans. All of this is a valuable part of being a teacher, in order to help them conduct their lessons and the class with structure and consistency. However, I think that the idea of lesson plans is one that is too rigid. A teacher cannot expect what is going to happen in a lesson, as regards to achieving the learning intentions or what way to implement the learning as children’s minds are so diverse and innovative that to plan a lesson and solely stick to it, would be to restrict the potential of the students’ minds. Hence, I completely agree with the notion that pupils should have a say in what they should learn or how to learn it. This not only can develop their specific learning needs, both as a group or on an individual level, but enhance their personal development- they are given a sense of responsibility, a sense of purpose and perhaps become of the realization that to conform to what you are ‘told you should do’ is not always the best answer. Children, with their innocence, are probably the most creative, innovative and imaginative minds on this earth, so why should we not embrace this and give the pupils an active role in their own learning?

  63. I believe that lesson plans are very beneficial as it helps teachers to become organised for the lesson, determine the learning outcomes and how the lesson will be taught. Although I agree with the lesson plans I still feel that they should remain open to the students ability, and interests of the children as not all children are the same, which will therefore allow for the differences aiding the children’s learning. In conclusion I feel that lesson plans are very important to help organise the teacher and ensure he or she carries out their intentions to achieve the learning outcomes; but I stress that they should remain open to suit the children.

I was thinking about diversified methods of learning, more practice than theory, group tasks and something like this. I’m sure that my ideas will help to make lectures much more interesting. But there is also very simple and close idea, which was proposed by Daniel Pink. Nothing else but to organize lesson with students help. It is the best way to make time together nicer.

In the other videos we heard a lot about what the qualities of a good teacher are, if a teacher need to be a good communicator, … This article is about reflection, teachers need to reflect their own practice, they learn everyday and they experience new things everyday because they are working with persons and everybody is different and unique. I think MR Pink is right when he says that we should ask pupils what they think and what they want. If we ask them, they will give ideas and this is very interesting because this stimulate a creative way of thinking. When something is decided at school this has been discussed with the staff, the director, parents,… but not with the student. If you think about it, this isn’t logic because those decisions affect the students in the first place. In my opinion teachers need to be open minded and to accept that they can learn from the students.

In one of the previous articles, you talked about the role of the teacher and what a good characters make a good teacher! Here I can say that a good and well-qualified teacher is a teacher that knows what to teach, when to teach, how to teach and how to evaluate objectively. But how these qualities can be gained – in the university, reading books and additional literature? No! These cannot be learnt! Every individual has a specific needs, but can you imagine a whole class with individuals, the teacher should live up to the expectations of 15-20 individuals. And here comes the best practice mentioned in the video- to ask the students. The methods of teaching should meet with the individuals. I agree completely with the statement in the article that the education should be personalized. What to teach and how to teach are things that can be shown by the students. It means that a teacher should definitely explore the need of the students and their individuals and then choose the methods of teaching. I think that is the only way to make the education more effective.

  71. In a learning process it is important to understand what is happening and why. And if there is some kind of schedule, plan of actions it is important to stick to it. Because if the plan all the time changes and children don’t know what will happen next and can they rely on a teacher that he will do as he said, then the learning process can be quite stressful. And if pupils don’t expect the teacher to follow the plan, then arises a question – Why should they follow it? Why should they respect the schedule and do their homeworks etc.
If a professor comes to class unprepared but in the meantime asks many homeworks from students, there most definitely will be some resistance from the students. And if the evaluation system is unclear, then at some point professor will have to explain it.
I think the most important word in this situation is mutual respect. If a teacher think that he can improvise all learning process, then there will be at least some students that will do the same. And who knows what they will learn and remember from these classes.

  72. To start with, curriculum is an element that can be explained as; any document or plan which exists in a school or school system that defines the work of teachers at least to the extent of identifiying the content to be taught student and methods to be used in the process. However, what curriculum exactly do? We can clarify its concept like; an overall plan of specific materials of instruction that the teaching instution should offer the student by way of qualifying him/her for graduation of certification or for entrance into a professional fields. And these three cocnepts are the foremost ones in the process of building a curriculum. Designig a curriculum based on the need of the learners. Developing a curriculum is also important because; you can not use the same curriculum as the needs changes with the effects of technology or any other factors. Finally evaluation, is the process of determinig whether the curriculum meets the needs or not.

I vehemently agree with the topic discussed by Daniel Pink. He delves into the true core of the text. As a trainee teacher I can understand the essence of the teaching methodologies that are adopted by teachers. this includes what to teach, how to teach and when to teach. These three questions encapsulate what teachers should base their teaching around as it will aid them to obtain an effective way of teaching. All students have various academic needs so a felxible approach to these posed questions will indubitably serve the students with the optimum chance of achieving acadmeically and truly grasping as well as understanding the true meaning of their work in school. Teaching is the fundamental component of one’s development in numerous ways so it is utterly pivotal that students are provided with an accomplished teacher.

  74. In another article there were this video about the «Mentor-Mentor-Relation». Learning in school is always an interaction between students and teachers, so it is not only important to evaluate the student as a teacher but also to evaluate yourself and in this process the idea of «Mentor-Mentor-Relation» is very helpful because the students can help to improve the teaching, they can teach a teacher to teach better. Therefore it is important to ask the students like Mr.Pink asserts in the video. I hope that the focus on diversity and personalized education in school will be stronger than now. In this point a dialogue between the teacher and the individuals is very important and should be vivid and creative. So as a pupil it is also very important to express the problems and the critics.

  75. Johannes Nitschke dice: Responder

Creating a learning unit is maybe the most important part of a teacher´s work. I think in the beginning of a career a teacher is very motivated and aware of who he is addressing his lesson and how he develops a new topic.

But after a few years the teacher knows his topic and practices “every-day-teaching” which means he does not improve his teaching units and uses only his old lesson plans and ideas. But here the teacher forgets one of the most important issues of a teaching unit: Adapting his lessons on the pupils and personalized education. That is not possible if the teacher is not adapting at changes like the internet.

That´s why continuous feedback and evaluation is very important. It is not possible to develop one perfect teaching unit for the whole school-life of a teacher. The teacher always has to adapt and that´s why he needs the feedback of the class and of other teachers.

  78. I found the video very interesting as many curriculum makers only ask experts, teachers and parents for advice and ideas for new curriculum. When in fact the best people to ask for advice and ideas are the students themselves as they are the people who are the ones who are benefiting (or not benefiting) from the education system. All over the world we can see old fashioned educational systems which are not beneficial to modern life especially when technology is advancing do rapidly that no-one knows what it will be like in a couple of years even months.

  79. I believe In schools, the best teachers are those who knew what to teach, when to teach and how to teach. Also teachers who excelled in the classroom and with students provided continuous assessments and were often a source of inspiration for students as,they led by example and acted in the role of a mentor to the students. The aspect of continuous evaluation is often overshadowed and ignored. Howeveri believe it helps the teacher to gather data in order to maintain or modify their teaching methods and plans to benefit each individual student. This is very similar to DanielPink in the video where he states the education system constantly needs to be reviewed in order for improvements to occur. He believes while recieving the opinions of parents, experts and teachers is valuable why not ask the students? This would provide excellent insight into beneficial posible outcomes and improvements in the classroom, the school and in fact the educational sysyem

  80. In St. Mary’s Belfast we are reminded of the importance of creating and filling out lesson plans. A lesson plan will give structure for your classes ad information on what to teach and the best methods on how to teach it. These plans don’t always go accordingly because different pupils or classes all learn differently and then the lesson has to be adapted to suit the pupils.
In my own opinion a teacher who is authoritative, direct and appears to have a greater knowledge on the topic they are teaching makes the best teachers because they know what they are talking about and make it more interesting for the pupil.
In St. Mary’s as students we are required to fill out course evaluation forms for different areas of study. I feel that this is a great way for the lectures to find out what areas of their topic are working well and other areas which might need improvement. from this information received from the students it will develop the level of education in the college as the students will feel more appreciated and the standard of teaching will rise.

I think it is important to ask the students of their opinion. Sometimes teachers forget to communicate with their students, but they are actually the most important for the education. When the teacher doesn’t communicate with his students, they will not learn in the same way. In my opinion, the basis for the school and the university are the students, it’s all set up for them, but often looks different. Young people should be educated in such a direction that interests him, should himself choose which way he wants to go one day, and the university should help him in this. The teacher should also be open and oriented to the needs of their students. An interesting solution is to talk with their, how learning can be applied to classes were more a varied. Important is the way ,the lesson will be served to a students – more direct contact to the subject matter of the lesson, in accordance with the age and interests of the student.

In my opinion this article is very relevant to the current educational system in Ireland. Throughout college and university student teachers are taught to make, create and teach the class with the use of lesson plans. However within the educational spectrum there are teachers who turn up to teach a class having not completed their lesson plan for that day or class.
This in my experience always results with a negitive outcome, as the teacher is often very easily distracted or loses course of the topic or line of thought that she or he was aimming to teach the class. which in turn means that the class are loosing out as they are not getting the full lesson that should have been planned earlier via the educator.
On the other hand this idea of a lesson plan for every class is idillic however can often take up alot of time for the teacher and with the ever growing demand and increasing work load often the teacher does not have that time.

I think that the methodological principles and theories of teaching are very important and have an important role in the education system. Students need a method to learn things, they need to know how they will be taught, and what they will learn. The continuous evaluation is a very good way to know how the student develops his knowledge, to know his progression. It’s also a good way to the teacher to do some «self-analysis» and to know if his education methods works or not. I think that sometimes, teachers should ask student’s opinion about what they are taught and the way they learn it. It should be a productive and beneficial approach for both part. In my opinion, a good class is a dynamic class with interactions from students and a good communication between teachers and their students.

Programming is the basic of science of teaching.Programming is the basic way of teacher. You can not make anything without programming. It is impossible to teach without asking the questions «why» «how» «when».The aim should be clear. While you are preparing a project,ıt is important that you are going to tell who.First question answers.Second question is about your explanation and your aim.The other question is that how I can explain .The last one is about evalucating of programme. It should be questioned whether the programme is succesful or not. While this programme is making,It should also be questioned to children about its content. It should be also questioned to children how they want to have a education.

  87. As a teacher you always have to be aware of what you do, what you teach, what kind of knowledge you convey and how you are connected with the pupils. Therefore it’s essential to reflect your own teaching units and your acts. I think if you are thoughtful and honest to yourself you’ll recognize if the pupils like and understand your way of teaching. I totally agree with Daniel Pink that asking the pupils about their opinion they will give you helpful answers. They will also give you suggestions for improvement if there are any barriers or difficulties. In my opinion it belongs to good communication skills to interact with the pupils in that kind of way. It’s a «win win situation» – both, teacher and pupils, will benefit of that method because the teacher knows what the pupils prefer or what could help them understand different topics easier and the pupils will be more attentive and active during the lessons.

  89. There is no doubt that the methodological principles and theories of teaching have an intrinsic role to play in the education system as a whole. If an educator is not competent in any aspect of this process, they are not educating the students properly. In school, the best teachers were those who knew what to teach, when to teach, how to teach and provided continuous assessments. In fact, they were often a source of inspiration, they led by example and often acted in the role of a mentor to the students. In my opinion the aspect of continuous evaluation is often overshadowed and ignored. However, it helps the teacher to gather data over a long period of time. Therefore, a teacher can maintain or modify their instructions to benefit each individual student. Also, I strongly agree with Daniel Pink. Processes and systems constantly need to be reviewed and changed or else they will become stagnant. In an education sense, why not ask the students for their opinions. Surely, it will be of more benefit to everyone involved if the teachers and students sat down together and asked each other their ideas and thoughts. Then you would get a far more beneficial and productive outcome.

I agree with Daniel Pink, that if we want to change and improve the education system, the best idea is to ask the opinion of the students. They participate in this so they know what we should change, how to improve, etc. But unfortunately very rarely we ask for their opinion and ideas. Of course, opinion of teachers, experts or parents are also important to improve education in every way. But we should not forget about the students who are a part of it. Therefore, I think that during the class teacher should also ask and know what think his students. Because of it very important is communication, personal approach to the subject, expressing our opinion. Unfortunately, classes often take the form of a monologue, without the active participation of students, so that they become boring and monotonous.

  92. As a teacher in society today you have to know what to teach, when to teach, how to teach and how to evaluate to be a great and inspirational teacher. By doing this you have a greater impact on the students and their futures if you are a memorable teacher who inspire the students to be great and be independent in their thoughts. To be an effective person and educator you need to be able to mentor, coach, be a leader and inspire people as this extract says but that us easier said than done. As a teacher you are aware that there are many different children of different intellectual abilities so it is your responsibility to ensure they are learning and that you are teaching in a correct manner. To have the right balance of education and fun in the classroom, in my opinion can be much more effective than just sitting down at a desk and learning from a book. If you have fun activities to emphasize your lesson it shows the students that there are alternative methods of teaching because some students respond better to practicality over books and reading. To be a good, inspirational and memorable teacher you need to have this balance in your lessons to put the student at ease while making them learn.

  95. I really agree with Daniel Pinks opinion to ask the students what can be done to make the school as education experience better. I think the students are the real experts of how education should be, because they experience it every day. Of course also the opinion of the other parts like teachers, parents and experts are important, but I think when we mix them together we might get a good result. For me one of the main parts of the article is that teachers should personalize education. It’s every single pupils right to get the best education. But teachers can only find this out when they ask them how they want to be educated, for example which methods they prefer, what motivates them or which way of learning is the easiest for them. But this is only possible when education is a response to diversity. So we should first maybe think about this.

Either students learn too fast and as a final result they do not remember a lot or they can learn more slowly but they probably will not be able to learn everything what was planned. At the university some young assistent teachers handed out the questionnaires to get feedback on their way of teaching. I do not know whether they consider the feedback and adjust the way of teaching or not. I like when a teacher is able to explain the content entertaining way and after the class I have a feeling that I really learned something and I am not going to forget it immediately.

  129. It must be very difficult to join together all the part that are meant in the article. But to be a good and successful teacher it is required.
Very interesting and probably truthful is that what Daniel Pink says on the video. Why not to ask students about their opinion? It can be helpful for the teacher, students can be a part of them who make curriculum and the lesson can be more interactive. On the other hand it is obvious, that the teacher has to lead the lesson, but students can actively participate at the creation of the programme.
There are not a lot of profesor doing that and it is a pity.

  130. I think that development is one of the most important things in our life. The problem is that many times people think they do not need to improve – they got their education and that is it. But everyone, teachers as well, have to develop all the time. They should not stick in the moment, because society is changing and so are needs of our pupils. Every teacher should educate all the time, so his work can grow and he can find better and better ways to do his job. Very important thing for development is also evaluation. When you know what you did it is easier to find out what and how you can improve.

I think that what Daniel Pink said on the video is quite accurate, because I usually get this feeling that decisions regarding schools and education are being made by the people who don’t have anything to do with it in the first place. Because of that, they have no idea what is really needed to be changed and how. If people in charge of education just took some time and ask students, or do a survey, or maybe even run a project, in which students taking part, would have to come up with adjustments for the educational system, i am sure that, like it was said on the video, they would be surprised how many great ideas students can have.

  132. The most important thing is communication between teachers and their students. Teacher has to be open for suggestions from students. Only this way he can became better and better, he can grow in all views. Teacher teaches his student but also students teach him. Good teacher is one who has good relation with his students and that kind of teacher will ask them questions and for suggestions how to make things more affectivity. And the classes will be better, funnier and more productivity for all o them. Teacher has to be almost friend with his student, but the problem is because sometimes he, because of that, loses his authority. So, it is very important you can combine both – have good relationship and communication with your student but still you can keep your authority.

  133. That is so true you have to know what the student want from you and if you know that than you’ll have satisfied students. So if you have satisfied students you as a teacher will work easier better faster and you could discuss about stuff that you may not talk about it if you didn’t have this. Everything is better for teachers students and also you grades in the class wiill be better so for this kind of method we can say win – win – win situation. Also relationship with teachers and student will be very good. Teacher are teaching you and they know a lot of things but of course they are also humans and they don’t know about anything everything so they have to ask students about their ideas and thus make their creativity so they can think with their own head.
If you don’t ask them that is your own loss because it would be very easier to teacher if he asks.

  134. I like this strategy, which is mentioned in video. In junior year of highschool i switched school, because i wasn’t sure that my hometown highschool was good enough to lead me where i want to be, and i was so right. I came from small town’s highscool to big city’s high level higschool. My biggest realization was, that here teachers listens to me. Like it was said in video, when a new course started, teachers gave us a paper and a pen, and we needed to fill in the paper our names, where we live and what do you expect from this course, and what would you like to do in the course. It was so thoughtful, and in the end of the year, they gave us an another paper, where we had to write how was the course, and maybe some recommendations. This small thing improves school education really well, because students knows that, teachers actually listens to them and they care.

The truth is that science is moving forward, as well as doctors, physicians, lawyers and many other professions, (if not all) need to constantly educate themselves and renew their skills. You can not be stuck in the same place all life, and spiers that what has been handed down to us dozen years ago is still the best, because often they have a chance that it is already outdated. You can not be so limited, I’m sure it does not develop. The teacher should also be able to listen to their students, asking for their opinion and suggest to her. On the other hand the students should express their willingness to cooperate and collaborate with teachers.

I enjoyed reading your ideas and also the video from Daniel Pink and I really agree to ask students for their opinion. Showing genuine care and concern for students both personally as well as academically, together with believing in their abilities goes a long way to building that so important trust.
I think that as a teacher it is so easy to fall into the rut of trying to make every student «color between-the-lines» instead of guiding students to discover through exploration the concepts that we are trying to teach. Students are more successful in the classroom when they are allowed to be responsible for their learning. Allowing students to be responsible for their learning involves risk on the students’ and the teacher’s parts. Each part must trust each other in order to take the risk.

  137. The idea of asking students is very good, but i think only for students above a certain age. But it is at some points more important to get the teachers to scrutize and improve or change their methology, because if one teaching afford was good years ago it can fail today because like society is constantely changing, the way you can reach students changes also. There are some older teachers in Germany that i know, that do and say every year the same things to the students of a certain age in their subject.
In the university constant anonymous evaluation is done in germany, which is, i think, a good method for the teachers to get to know more about the students perspective. This model could work i think also in high schools for students above 16 years of age. It is better for everyone when teachers use evaluation to improve their teaching skills, because better teachers always lead to a better education in general on the long term.

  138. For school I did a final presentation, and what Daniel Pink says, is exactly what I said. How important it is to talk with your students and not think what they might goanna say. The problem with our society is, that we live in a time were we have a lot of technical stuff and think we know everything. But we don’t. You can read a lot of books and do a lot of studies about a subject but when you bring it into practice, it’s probably works the other way around. Professionals are so stuck in the things they learned and how they should do it. Teachers must be the most flexible persons. They get to know a lot of students in their live witch living in another generation during the years.

But beside that, were does teachers find the time do talk with the students? If we read all the last articles, there is a lot that teacher can do to improve their work. Personalized education is these days the last thing they take into account although they know how important it is. It a new way of thinking but I think it is possible and important to work on this.

  139. There is no doubt that a teacher must be wise enough to adopt the methodology and not only in accordance to the age group. It can be often noted that some teachers have a tendency not to improve their curriculum because they believe that their teaching methodology is the best. Especially it can be seen with teachers of older generation that have years of experience, therefore, they think that their approach works. But in this case there’s one crucial aspects missing – creation of motivating learning conditions that often cannot be done with old-school methods. Time changes and all of the teachers should go along with it and adopt their methodology according to it.

I agree that it’s quite useful to ask students about their opinion of the lesson, the teacher, if they understand what he says, etc. But firstly I think that it’s more important to cultivate critically thinking persons, who can discover their interests, are able to express a personal opinion, to say if they understand the lesson and what they would really like to do at school. Also, I believe that teacher should be generally more open to listen to the direct and indirect messages of students. He should try to understand their way of thinking, in order to follow and evolve it, their learning style, as well as to be flexible to change the program he had planed if for example students are tired. Finally, he can really evolve his lesson if he tries to take advantage of the great potential of imagination and creativity of children

I absolutely agree that teacher must have a plan and know what to teach, when to teach, how to teach and how to make an assessment of students‘ knowledge. Because when a teacher is not sure even about one of these things how students have to understand why they are learning. And of course a good teacher has to take into account the students’ opinion about the subject, what they are expecting to learn, how to get the most benefit from the course. In my university students’ opinions about subjects, professors, way of teaching are very important. After every semester all the students get an anonymous questionnaire to evaluate and improve curriculum.

  142. the realization of a method of educating demands a designer, developer and evaluator that have a good eye for diversity. To adjust at the diversity among students a social worker/ teacher needs to take into account that the when, what and especially how and why to teach something, are very important questions to be asked in order to reach, involve, empower and motivate students to expand their knowledge. These questions needs to be answered if the teacher/ social worker wants to reach his students.
The contact between teacher and student needs to be improved. When the teacher is able to trust and involve his students in organizing his classes, he does not only give students an extra possibility to learn but also to improve their confidence and make them responsible for the success of the course.

I think it is definitely a good thing if the student can express their attitudes to teaching. Students have the opportunity to bring their ideas to the development of education. So far I have met only several teachers, who wanted to know if students suit the style of teaching. In our school have to each fill out a survey about the subject, before subject-leaving. Student answers on questions about the quality of teaching. This method is not quite right in my opinion. This survey hasn´t influenced the style of the course for students who filled out. Only mandatory survey can´t affect the style and method of teaching, if teacher doesn´t want make a change with it.

There is a concept in education called feedback, it can be either in positive or negative. There are lot of things about feedback in education such as its power, its meaning, its model etc, yet there is one missing part. Why don´t we implement «the concept of feedback» on teachers? Education is based on a mutual relation, then why don´t we criticise our teachers? In my university, at the end of every semester, we have to fill a survey in order to criticise both the class environment and our professors. According to the results, university tries to make better the classroom environment and gives some feedback to the professors. It is a good way to improve learning, because by this means, teachers have an opprtunity to be evaluated and students have a chance to tell their problems.

I completely agree with Daniel Pink that is important to ask students how could they change methods of education. Education is relationship between teacher and students and it is like the conversation which need to receive the feedback from students. The best feedback is knowledge which is imparted to students and of course it is necessary to get feedback about style and process of teaching. If the teacher does his best in education of his students, he can utilize the feedback for improvement his teaching. At schools and universities question-forms are very popular in this time. It is kind of effort how to obtain the feedback from students but in most cases you do not see any change. The problem is that these question-forms are sent round to students after the course. In my opinion it would be better if teacher leads some open discussion during the course among students and they should tell him what he should change in his teaching or what he should add to his teaching for enrichment of education in the class.

  146. In High School I had a teacher who asked us to write an assessment about her lessons and the end of every semester.
It was really important to her and that we were honest. She said: Write down what you like and what you dislike about my lessons. The assesment was written anonymously and so everybody was free to write what he or she thinks.
The next lesson (after she read all of the assessments) we talked about it and she asked us what how she could improve thing. This teacher was really my favourite teacher! Of course it is hard to read critics but it was really worth it and our class really enjoyed her lessons!

I think every class should start with a » what do you want to learn today?».Its of course not always possible because the teacher has to prepare the classes-use methodes-prepare the pupils to a certain goal like a certificate in the end.But at least at the beginnig of every semester this should be the question-and at the end of every semester it should be :»what did you learn? what could i do better netxt time? what would you change?» I think its important to create (like its said in the text) a motivating learning situation and that is just possible if you know what the pupils expect from you as a teacher and from themselves as the main part of the learning process. A fact that for me is really important is to ask the pupils in what way they want to learn-which methods should be used, because i think its really important to give them the freedom and the trust in themselves that they dont need a teacher to learn sth. For me the best method is to let them experience themselves their potential and that is only possible if you ask them for their own ideas of learning.

  148. I agree with Daniel Pink. Students should be asked to evaluate the lessons and their teachers. Being a part in learning process, students can feel more involved in their studies and this will encourage teachers to prepare for their lessons more effectively. To be more useful and helpful students should submit their evaluation in written form. At least once during the term. Teachers also should ask students to assess their own participation: What is working well? What could be improved? What progress are they making on their goals? Giving students a sense of responsibility for their participation can be very motivating. Students’ evaluations prove to be the most effective at providing specific information and should be an important part of class evaluation.

  150. The video has a very strong message. I was asking myself a lot of time why nobody ask us how is possible to improve work in class in some subject, what would we change it, how we would change it and also what kind of inovations are imortant for us and it would make subject, classes or school more pleasant for teachers, students and other profesiional staff in the school. I think that this part is missing in every school and in every classrom. Nobody in my primary in secundary school never asked me or people in the class what would we like to do, how we could change some things even if they saw that simply did not worked out. I saw this change in my University in my first years of studying. The conversation really developed in some classes but unfortunately not in all. We were asked for our opinion the most of the time just in one profesor and I have to say that also relationship changes if you see that you have also important part of creating you education.

  151. I must say that I didn’t have a lot teachers who where asking what we think about their classes and what could they approve to do it better. Only a few had asked me. And I think it’s brave and good that the teacher asked that. Because a lot of teachers thinking that they are the best, but they never asked a student if it was actually good lessons. I think that they don’t ask because they are afraid they will read things that they don’t want to see. But if you can’t improve yourself, then for me you are not a good teacher. It’s always good to see someone elses his opinion. Then you can learn. But then there are teacher who thinks that they can’t learn of their students. But that’s ridiculous, even if the students doesn’t have the knowledge as the teacher they can still have they own opinion. So I’m a big PRO of asking the students what they think about you lessons!

Asking students is the best solution which can the teacher realise. I cant understand why teachers don’t ask students, because only students are primary source of information. I think teacher should improve their teaching if they´re asking for the feedback. This is one of ways like can became a good teacher. And it´s so easy. Students can bring good, new ideas. I think educational process is about participation. If we would like to have a good study time, we have to connect every factor. I mean it´s about participation of director, students, teacher, family and so on. No only experts can bring us the answer, often it can be just a pupil.

  153. It is totally true what Daniel Pink says. That is something that I was thinking about all the time. s we are students, we are the most active part in educational system. Sometimes we know better than any other people who involve the education about what is good for us or what is not good. For example we know maximum how many minutes we can focus on to class. We know which technique is better for us to understand things easier. Some changes is being made every year in education. But nobody ask students about that changes. That’s why lot of changes don’t last so long. If we want to have a strong educational system , we need to start asking students and talk to them about what they need.

There is no unified plan for how to teach well. It depends on many factors such as the number of pupils in the class, their ability to learn, approach of the teachers …
As for the video, I agree with Daniel Pink, he says it is taken little account of the views of students. He says ask them for opinion and they give it to you. As wrote Hanka, can sometimes be a problem that the student is shamed to express their opinions in front of others, so students should be given the opportunity to express their views electronically for example, or to be taught by teacher not to be afraid to express their own opinions.

  155. The improvement of schools is occurring constantly. Since the schools are such a big part of the society various people have an opinion about how the school could be improved and I agree on that it is significant to ask the students about their opinion. Students spend a bigger part of their life in school so of course it is important to listen to what they have to say so that it is accounted for. In my experience students has been asked but it has not been taken into account seriously. I think it is just as important to ask as actually taken the answers seriously. And since school is obligatory which means that the pupils are not there by free will (although a lot of students want to go to school) it is even more important to hear what they have to say. The way I see it is seem like as long as you are a student you know what could be better in school out of a student perspective, but as soon as you stopped being a student and have become a teacher or something it is like you have forgotten what it is like to be a student.

  156. Swaenepoel Liesbeth dice: Responder

I totally agree with Daniel Pink.
“If you ask the students their opinion, they will give their opinion. If you ask students for some ideas, they will give you their ideas.” When he was saying this a was immediately thinking about my toddlers in the classroom, I understood what he was saying. And it’s true the children will give you all of this because they have the feeling that you (as a teacher) care about it. It will give the student the feeling like you count, that it does matter what they say or do. This will give the student/children a good feeling.
But I think you have to be careful with this in high school. I think it is a good idea but their must be a balance between the teachers authority and the student democracy. If the teacher lose the autority it wil not be good for the teacher but also not for the students, the students need to have a leader if they do’nt have a leader they will get lost.

  157. 2 most outstanding points I get in the article: «to whom it is adressed and how to develop it». To achieve managament, a teacher should know the way and importance of knowing to whom it’s going to be adressed as a beginning point. While specifying «whom», the teacher should take into account the abilities, motivations and interests of each child, maybe learning styles as well. This is what the author tells about in the article. Then comes «development process». Here is the point that makes the teacher different: to know the way of how to develop. As the last part, evaluation is always regarded as an attitude that teachers continuously projected on learners, but for me, the best way of assesment is between students in a classroom environment. Teacher should play leading role to guide the educational process, but we should not ignore that evaluation of another student for a child can be more helpful most of the time.

  158. When speaking about active role of students in their own educational process, I completely agree that a significant improvement could be made if students would participate more. Judging from my experience, I enjoyed primary and secondary school because of active classroom environment and constant homeworks that were discussed later in the class. Moreover, I really think that this process also made it easier to gain a lot of knowledge. But, even though some students in university love the fact that finally they don`t have to do homeworks everyday and they can only concentrate on exams at the end of semester, I think that constant homeworks, active role in classroom as well as appropriate assessment would significantly improve the educational effect that university gives to a student.

It would say of course, it is to evaluate your opinion so we can make changes That you will really appreciate. Im thinking » What changes ??? «» So i sometimes dont even fill them in. Now if all students from each educational system where brought in an open air field, in a gym, or even individuallty in classes, and for a day there was a discussion about » What would you change Children??»» What is this that we do wrong, that you may be afraid to say. firstly the students shouldnt be afraid and must express their beliefs in the open, like little adults. By asking students about the changes needing implementing we will finally be aware of what is going wrong in the education system. I believe that maybe they do not trust their opinions, however, their brains are working at a speed and at waves newer to the ones of the currents brains of the teachers. Therefore their ideas cannot be that bad after all. They should be Heard , Give them a Voice.

Daniel Pink is right to ask students about their opinion about school life.
The students are the pupils from yesterday and the teacher from tomorrow. They are not yet far away from the things that happen to pupils in school. So they know both sides: The side of the pupils and the side of the (future) teachers. This would be a chance to create connector (students) between these both sides.
The only problem is that their lobby is much smaller than the lobby of the experts, the parents and the others. But if the students of today get a bigger lobby to help solving any problems of school’s life, they have the chance to solve their own problems of their own future place of work, which will concerning them, too.

  162. It is definetely important to maintain a constant dialog between teachers and students but it is not just necessary to ask students about their opinion but the educators have to think about how to consider and include ideas, opinions and needs of their pupil in the education system.
Also the students themselves have the possibility to bring their ideas to developing education but unfortunately only after primary and upper school.
Education should be an interaction between students and teachers and sometimes the role between them can switch which is interesting for both sides. Therefore to listen and to respect the other side is a basic requirement for a productive teamwork.

They are not experts in education probably but they should have a voice in the education system today, because mainly they are the ones who are being educated. In my opinion the education system is obsolete and boring. Many people have written about ways to change education, but what good has it done if they are leaving out the voice of the students? Students should be centered first and foremost, I think. They feel the best what should be changed, what should be repaired and what is missing in the educational system.

These surveys are going to lecture and to responsible person. So if you have something to tell you can say it and your opinion is always welcome. To create truly a good, valuable, useful and interesting educational unit demands a lot of to do, to search, to know, to analyze before. I think that a big part of successful learning/teaching depends on a methodology how to do this. If students are interested and involved in the process of learning they catch much more information then these students who are ignored and teacher just says what (s)he is required by institution.

  165. Agata Klopotowska dice: Responder

I definitely think that students should have the right to express their opinion about the education system. Certainly, their opinion should not be the only one to be taken into account, but to a large extent should be noticed. Students feel the best what is missing in the system, what should be changed, what needs to be repaired, because they are the ones who are involved in this system. All kinds of surveys conducted among students is not sufficient, because it does not allow you to fully, subjectively assess system and every aspect of education. Of course, students are not the only people involved in the process and not only them have the right to vote, the teachers also need to see and have a right to speak loudly about any inconvenience in the education system that need to change.

  166. It is very dificult to plan a lessons so that everybody of the students had the greatest contribution. It is important to discuss and ask students for their opinions, Mainly at high schools because of lower levels of education it is primarily the interpretation of new facts. From my own experience I know that a lot of students are ashamed or afraid to tell their own opinion on the discussed problem. The solution might be that everybody wrote his opinion on paper and then it would be read. The problem in this situation would probably be time-consuming and also the impossibility to further and develop this opinion. So it is really difficult to find the right timing of the lesson.

  167. Student democracy and influence are very important in the classrooms and the teaching processes. But as many other topics that we have discussed their must be a balance between the student democracy and the school standards and the teachers authority. If there is no authority in the classrooms, a clear leader, the situation will be close to anarchy and I have to tell that many students don´t feel comfortable without a “leader” or clear rules. But on the other hand it´s important to have student democracy and practicing influence in general to prepare the students on thinking, arguing and take a stand, this will not only help them in school but throughout life in general.

  168. Lessons are very structured. If you want to plan different lessons you have to focus on the students in class and then subsequently develop the lessons. Also it is very important to keep the length and time of a lesson in mind. Of course you can put into a lesson a lot of content and different themes, but then you shouldn´t forget, however, that students need to internalise all such content. Thus, the planning and execution of lessons are very detailed. We should never underestimate the planning and structur of each lesson. During the first planning you can really see that the time is running and that 45 minutes in Germany really not a lot. Sometimes it is really difficult to complet a theme in one lesson or to find a good end which is a nice connection to the next lesson.

  169. I believe that teaching children appropriate grouping of level of children. The teacher should also be open and oriented to the needs of their students. An interesting solution is to talk with the students how learning can be applied to classes were more a varied. Relationships are important to the student teacher. If you do not understand they should ask questions, and they do not try to solve it. If a student likes to work in a group or in pairs, let it. Do not limit thinking that just because it is a group work. Classes should not be boring. Continuous listening when the teacher explains the material. Children also want to speak to what they think about it.

  170. Very often is it that students are not asked for his opinion, but given the information to learn and that is the whole «science». Such a way of killing the creativity of students. In my opinion, the basis for the school and the university are the students, it’s all set up for them, but often looks different. Young people should be educated in such a direction that interests him, should himself choose which way he wants to go one day, and the university should help him in this. The teacher should not exalt the student, however, is often so that the teacher is right, and the student has to listen to the teacher.

  171. How much we can learn at school and how much at home in that same time? Who knows better ourselves than we? If classes have 30 persons, it is not possible to do nothing really useful. We can talking and talking about it but it will not change nothing, teacher may be a psychological genius, but if he will have only 45 minutes and a lot of students, it will be good if just few persons will understand something correctly. A lot of things are obligated by government, beacuse it’s a judge. If country is small, number of students is small, like in Finland, then it’s easier to do something, but USA? Or even Poland? 35 persons in each class, 45 minutes, and teacher has to decide that he will learn them something or let them pass a ,,matura» exam.

They don´t want to look silly. But smart students will never have to think about their teacher that is stupid. Because it is not. No one who has achieved so far and went on to severe lifelong journey – being a teacher, mentor, friend, listener can not. However, it is important communication between teachers and students. It’s important that teachers keep trying to convince that they are smarter and better than they want to see.
This actually made me think about 2 movies. ‘The ron clarck story’ and ‘the freedom writers’.
In these movies you can see how a teacher motivates his/her students to be better and to give themselves a change in school and in live.

The concept metacognitive means to make the invisible visible to the children and make opportunities to develop understanding for their own learning and to reflect over the things they see and do. As a pedagogue you have to do this by using different methods and theories therefore it is very important to embrace and learn them during your training. In the social cultural perspective you see the whole child and to participate is as significant to the teacher as it is to the child. Cooperation and practical work is an important part of how and when children learn. Children learn together and thru communication and imitation they can also learn from each other.

  175. how to teach and how to learn? its questions of teacher and students and the answer is not so easy. the process of education have to be adapted to their recipients, having regard to their problems, tempo of acceptance knowledge etc. the teacher is the person who should know it, know about students more than them. young people are learning about them self by experiments, but this need time. they dont know which way is ot the best, also way of learning. teacher should lead them, but he has to know the methods and for who that is prepared. he has to try recognise and show the way. but to do this its not enough to have knowledge about it. teachers have to be also open-minded and be oriented the needs of their students. i think its even more important.

  176. It is a reality that all the time experts trying to improve the field of education. But the disappointing thing is that never approach the satisfactory level of improvement.
After that, they wonder…what didn’t work? The answer is you never have in mind students..Actually, they try to improve the system for them without them…Based on the video I would like to agree with the basic idea of it and I would like to add that students have to have the right to say how they really want the educational system to be and how they want to be taught and educated because the schools exist for them…Real improvement can only exist through students.

  177. I think that a lot of experts is afraid to give a vvord or oportunity to student because if the teacher vvill learn from student, than he vvill lose his role in the class. I think that this is something that vve can find everyvvhere…vvhy to pay an expert or profesional if a people already knovv the ansvver, vvhy vve need a social vvorkers if vve have to let the users to find their ovvn vvay to the solution. Maybe teacher thinks that he doesnt deserve his salary if he doesnt tell the right ansvver or even vvorse if he is asking. The most vve can give to another person is the model hovv to be also vvrong, hovv to have a job and dont knovv all the ansvvers, hovv to be a person on a position but still a human tovvard another human/student. Sometimes it is important just to have there another person and this is enough that you can develop yourself and this is also vvhy teachers are payed for and I think that vve should let them knovv this.

I think it is important to ask the students of their opinion. Sometimes teachers forget to communicate with their students, but they (the students) are actually the most important for the education. When the teacher doesn’t communicate with his students, they will not learn in the same way. If the teacher doesn’t communicate with his students they will not listen while the teacher is educating and because it doesn’t feel like the message is to them. I think this happens when the teacher has too big respect for the curriculum and won’t miss anything, but also when he doesn’t feel satesfied with his work. The educating has this times its focus on only the teaching and things the student has to learn. But this is a big mistake, because students need good relationships (both to teachers and other students) and a good environment in school. They need to feel safe and feel good in class, when they have this, they also have a good chance to learn in their best way.

I totally agree with what Daniel Pink is saying.
Teachers don’t believe in their students enough to think that they could have a solucion for a problem. But the teachers need to see and realise that the idees of the students can sometimes be much better than their own and I think that’s something that a lot of teachers are afraid of. They don’t want their students to be ‘smarter’ or ‘better’ than them.
In many cases the students are capable of a lot more than the teachers give them credit for, they can have marvelous idees if you just give them the change to prove it, by just asking them and believing in them.

  180. The statement from this author reminds me of the statement about the realtionship between mentor and menty. It is more or less the same main topic, that a person who is not yet a specialist wants to learn something from a specialist but also the person who can be a pupil, a student or whatever could also have very good ideas and develope things.
So i totally agree with this statement because if the teacher ask the students, the students can fulfil themselves but also help or develope the teacher at the same moment.
At one point in a career of being a teacher it could be that you do not have any ideas anymore and at this time pupils can help you with their freshness for example.
But it could also be that you have ideas as a teacher but you also want to know what your pupils want to do in school or you can develope together some ideas.

  181. Daniel Pink’s thoughts are so true! Students know best how they learn good, what they need their school/teacher to be like. And besides that it gives them the feeling that they are part of the whole process and that teachers actually care about them. It will also improve their learning-process automatically when they think about how to learn best. It will enlighten our daily work and increase the variety of our teaching methods. It is also good because the responsability of learning is on both sides. It is not just the student or the teacher who failed. The students also learn to be responsable and to improve oneself, skills for a future working-life. Believe in your students!
